KITTY CARSON Obituary

CARSON, KITTY Z. Born May 30, 1919 in Albany, New York, she is survived by her daughter, Lee L. Lavery of Dania Beach. Kitty moved to Florida in 1950 and went to work for the Hollywood Sun - Tattler. She wore many hats during her tenure with the Tattler writing a Gardening column weekly, a "Cook of the Week" column and was also the Tattler photographer and writer covering the social scene. Photography was not only her profession but also her passion. Sporting a real obsession for purple, and with everything in her home purple, she became known as the "Purple Lady of Hollywood", even renting her purple Thunderbird for modeling shoots with Nikki Taylor and other famous models. When the Sun Tattler closed its doors, she went to work for the Hollywood Police Dept. operating their Police Photo Lab for over 10 years. After retiring from the Police Dept., she moved to Key Largo full time, where she had a home in Silvers Shores for many years. There she volunteered at Mariners Hospital and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2005. She was a member of the Garden Club, a member of the Orchid Club and several other organizations. She spent her final years in Key Largo gardening and creating unique garments with her many elaborate sewing machines. At her request there will be no service and her remains will be scattered on the water by her Key Largo residence. Donations may be made to the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center, or the Key Largo Humane Society, in Kitty's name. A special Thank You to Eileen Hall and Zelpha Henry for their extraordinary kindness and compassion. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.
