Leah Auricchio Obituary

Our good friend, Leah Auricchio, passed away on the morning of October sixth; losing her battle with cancer. She was surrounded by friends and loved ones. A strong and courageous woman, this may have been only the second battle she had ever lost. The first was her battle with active addiction to which she surrendered over thirty years ago. Leah spent the rest of her life clean and helped countless others to do the same. She became friend, mother, inspiration and mentor to thousands of recovering individuals around the world, whose lives she touched with a light and serenity which came directly from a higher power in which she so deeply believed. If she loved you, she was always in your corner and would never give up on you. As a member of an anonymous program; twelve steps became her life, her passion, and her mission! From the time she found recovery on June 23,1980 until the day of her passing, Leah worked tirelessly to bring a message of hope and recovery to people who had long ago lost all hope. If you are in recovery and wish to honor Leah's memory, please, do the same for someone else! Her heart, as well as her door, were never closed. She will be remembered as long as there are hearts to remember, laughter and stories to be rekindled, dreams to be shared, principles to live by, and hope to be found. Leah touched the lives of everyone she met! She was Active in the World Service Organization and served as chairperson from 1983-1986. Leah was born on May 7, 1948. She was the beloved daughter of Sam and Libby Goodrich, long time Miami residents who were originally from Shaker Heights; a suburb of Cleveland,Ohio. Services will be held at Forrest Lawn 2401 Davie Road, Davie, FL, 33317. Sunday October 20th at 1pm.

Six years later - still think about her from time to time. Miss the visits from the "glue" that kept the group together. Definitely miss and remember the laughter - no one could make me laugh like her!

Not one of us whose lives she touched with insight and healing words can express what she meant to us, nor explain ways she brought us from hopeless to hope, from walking dead to life and from painful existence without understanding-in exponential quantities-to joyful life with certain knowledge of His will for us which is to give to others what Leah gave to us. Half the world (or more) is clean (and recovering) due to her life and choices she made about how to use her life. I am saddened at her illness & passing, grateful for her relief & freedom but while l am missing her I do not mourn as I have to know she is in bliss and we will meet again. Only a loving G-d would bless us with Leah-a soldier in this war and one whose trophies are each little "hope to die but really afraid to" person in pain that she brought into her heart dishing out the contents with wisdom coming only from G-d. She was one of the first to introduce me to this Power, this G-d that gave me life and introduced me to love and sanity through her and our fellowship. I LOVE YOU. I THANK G-D FOR YOUR LIFE. SEE YOU SOON. (A day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day unto God). Bunny-your "Non-Sponsee"...

I'll never forget the trip to Florida when we were 20, the many times we were together with Shaker classmates over the years, and most of all, the laughter. A light has gone out, but not the memories. Rest in peace.

I am saddened to learn of Leah's passing at such a young age. She was a power of example to me in my recovery. When she would speak about her experiences, her strengths and her hopes, her voice was loud and strong. Although I did not know her that well, I will remember her for her message of recovery. Thank you Leah for helping so many of us stay clean. RIP.

Aunt Leah, you will be forever loved and forever missed. You were always my idol as a kid. I always said I wanted to grow up to be as witty, smart, and loving as you. I will miss our texts and occasional visits. Wishing you eternal peace at last. xoxo-- Love Chrissy
