I just learned of Michael's passing from my sister. I went to Miami High with Sam but I remember Michael as a beautiful little baby. Two Givens boys gone way too soon. It is heartbreaking. My deepest sympathy to his partner and the Givens family.

My deepest condolences to Michael's parents, siblings, partner, and loved ones. May you all find comfort and strength in knowing that Michael was fondly regarded. My heart dropped when I heard the news this week. I was saddened and affected by his passing. It brought back many fond high school memories with Michael at Miami Senior High.
Michael Givens was a sweetheart in every way. He was friendly, kind and considerate, generous and caring to a fault; a ray of sunshine that brightened any room he entered. He was very smart and witty, super funny, a talented actor with a flair for the dramatic.
Michael was very active in our high school, and I was very proud to have served with him on the Junior/Senior Class Board. A fun loving person with a wonderful attitude. He was an excellent dancer too, and always a blast to be around. I was fortunate to have him as my date for my Junior BETA formal - fun times and great memories.
But most of all, Michael was a true solid friend to all who were blessed to know him. He will be missed dearly. An angel amongst the angels; may you rest in peace our sweet Stingaree.
Ps. I wasn't able to make it to the funeral, but I did stop by the cementary to pay my respects. He has a beautiful tree overlooking him and his brother - very peaceful. May God always watch over him.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Michael's passing. Although I hadn't seen him since high school, I have many fond memories of him, from Honoria socials to working in the Activities Office. My condolences to his family and partner. Truly gone too soon.

It's a sad reminder that we are here for just a short while and it's so important that we be kind to each other.... So very sad to hear of Michael's passing. He was my colleague, friend and children's teacher. In my classroom, I still have the two sombreros that he left. I always think of him when I look at them, and remember him fondly.

I will always remember Mr. Givens' sense of humor and exceptional kindness as one of a family of middle school teachers at Key Biscayne Community School. My friends and I met Michael (he will always be Mr. Givens to us) at a magical time in our formation and education. Our afternoons were spent in one of three classrooms - if we were not with Ms. Santiago, our math teacher, or Mr. Lawrence, our science teacher - we would be with Mr. Givens, the moderator of our student government. I still remember our lesson on endocrinology brought to life by meeting a doctor working in the field and made more real through his own need for insulin. The scale map I made of Miami in 7th grade is how I not only found my way but gained the confidence through the palimpsest of my failures.
Lessons were never abstract but grounded in Mr. Givens' vision of the men and women we would become. He taught us responsibility not just for our work and ourselves but for our community. He is a shining light for me in the constellation of guiding stars I have had in my life.
Mr. Givens, you and your family will be in my prayers.
