Milbert Mindes

1928 - 2016

Milbert Mindes passed away peacefully in his home in Miami Beach, Florida on April 22, 2016, one week shy of his eighty-eighth birthday. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Angelike Ruth Mindes, his adoring daughters Sarah (Neil Fortunato), Aimee, and Marie (Tony Bro), and his loving grandchildren, Sofia, Olivia, Luca, Levi, Aleksi and Parker. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 29, 1928. He joined the Navy out of high school; and graduated Naval Flight Academy at the top of his class. Milbert then put himself through college through the Air Force ROTC program at the University of Southern California and the University of Miami, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; and entered the United States Air Force as an officer where he served as Chief of Civil Engineering at United States Air Force bases around the world, including Alaska, the Philippines, Thailand, Athens, Greece and Frankfurt, Germany, retiring at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base in Florida. Also having been a builder in the private sector, Milbert chose to remain in South Florida to raise his family in a home he had built. With an incurable wanderlust, he took his wife and three daughters all over the world, providing them an amazing life rich with experiences. He ultimately settled his family in Miami Beach in the home he stayed in until the end. Affectionately know by those close and dear to him as "Daddy", Milbert was a generous father figure and benefactor to many people. A war veteran, having served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, Milbert will be laid to rest with full honors at the South Florida National Cemetery on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 2p.m. with his devoted family and close friends present to say their final farewell to a man they loved, cherished and appreciated more than words can say. An ardent lover of animals and animal rescuer, a donation to a local animal shelter in Milbert's memory in lieu of flowers would be preferred. In observance of the Passover holiday and Shabbat, the family will be not be sitting Shiva.
