Mildred Gittelson Obituary

Mildred "Mickey" Greenberger Gittelson, of Miami, FL, died March 30, 2023, at The Palace, Miami. She was born in Lansford, PA, on November 11, 1921.

People were drawn to Mickey's warmth, outgoing personality, great sense of humor, creativity, and desire to help others.

She graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in three years, before earning a Master's Degree in Social Work, from Bryn Mawr College, in 1947. She worked as a Medical Social Worker, and was a member of the National Association of Social Workers.

She was a member of Community Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and served on the Board of The National Alliance on Mental Illness. A lady of many talents, Mickey was an accredited international flower show judge. Recipient of many awards, she had amazing skills creating beautiful and unusual arrangements. She was President of Dadeland Garden Club, was a Master Judge of Flower Shows of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, and was on the Florida Council Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judges. Having a passion for writing, Mickey taught some creative writing classes at FIU.

Mickey was preceded in death by her sister, Stella Woolf, former husband, George Gittelson, MD., and son, Alan Gittelson. She is survived by son Howard Gittelson and wife Nadine, of Coral Gables; son Gary Gittelson and wife Cheri, of Miami, granddaughter Julie Gittelson, of Coral Gables, and niece, Tina W. August of Jacksonville, FL.
