NORMA WALCUTT Obituary

WALCUTT, NORMA COUGILL, 90, much loved mother and homemaker, died quietly in her sleep July 18, 2011. She was born in Newark, Ohio, June 30, 1921, to Thelma Andrix Cougill and Frederick Cougill. In October of 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, naval aviator Thomas Walcutt. Norma and Tom, then a commercial airline pilot, moved to Lima, Peru for eight years and raised their daughters Susan and Cynthia. Their son Tim was born after the family's move to Miami and other than a few years in Dallas, Texas, Coral Gables became their home. An avid collector of antiques, Norma scoured New England for her treasures and kept the family busy refinishing and reusing. She was the official gardener at her condo, coaxing flowers to bloom with her magic 'blue water' and was a member of the local garden club. An accomplished bridge player, she enjoyed weekly games with long time friends. Norma mastered international cuisine and was skilled in upholstery and sewing. She loved animals and had beautiful afghan hounds that were part of the family. Norma enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and family. All told, she visited every continent except Antarctica. Norma is survived by her son, Tim Walcutt and his wife Pam, daughter Susan Walcutt all of Miami, daughter Cynthia Brown and her husband David of Massachusetts, her sister Wynn Powers of New York and her brother Frederick Cougill of Arizona. Tom, her husband of 65 years, predeceased her. She had five grand children and one great grand child. Services were private. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in her honor to benefit Pinecrest Gardens (the old Parrot Jungle was the family's backyard). Donations should be directed and payable to the Community Foundation of Pinecrest, Inc., a non-profit organization that supports the Village of Pinecrest community, at the following address: Community Foundation of Pinecrest, Inc. Susan, Cynthia, Tim & Family, Your Mom was an amazing positive, giving, caring, beautiful person. Norma was my favorite neighbor and a dear friend when I lived in Miami. She would greet new neighbors with a plate of home baked cookies/home made dinners, offer drives to airport or collect mail , and ensured the condo complex garden was fresh and beautiful. Your Mom made time to help me with cooking/decorating/ career ideas, and we enjoyed fun times over tea, lunch, walks in Fairchild Tropical Garden. Norma was a ray of sunshine and blessing in my life. Your Mom was so proud of you, and loved you dearly. Please know my thoughts and prayers to you at this difficult time. Hugs and Love, Nicki
