Raul Lorenzo Zayas-Bazan

Raul Lorenzo Zayas-Bazan Perdomo born April 17, 1920 in Camaguey, Cuba, passed peacefully Sunday,May 6,2012. A lawyer and professor at Las Escuelas Pias,Havana, in 1962 he immigrated to Miami where he taught at Camp Matecumbe-Boys Town. Later he taught at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School and was a teacher and visiting teacher counselor in the public school system. Retiring in 1987, he then volunteered 21 years at Mercy Hospital. Believing in a life of service, he was a dedicated lector/Eucharistic minister at St. Peter and Paul and actively worked with St. Vincent De Paul, Las Escuelas Pias Alumni, the Archdiocese of Miami's Youth Center, the Federation of Cuban Catholic Action, and SEPI. He is survived by his loving wife, Eloisa Zayas-Bazan; daughters Eloisa Alfonso and Ana Maria (Jose) Sotolongo; grandchildren Christopher and Nicholas Alfonso, and Daniel and Isaac Sotolongo. Raul will be remembered for his wisdom, compassion, and generously loving spirit which will live on in the lives of those he touched.
