Richard Fincher Obituary

FINCHER RICHARD WEST, September 27,1927- August 10, 2002. Born in Rochester, New York and long time resident of Miami. Beloved father of Harry Fincher, Faith Finklestein, and Lang Fincher and grandchildren Taylor and Ryan Finkelstein. Richard (Dick) led a very full and diverse life with a magnitude of friends. He served in the U.S. Army (Field Ar- tillery), and was elected to both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. While in the Senate, Mr. Fincher; served as chairman of the Judiciary B Commission, vice chairman of the Ways and Means Commission, vicechairman of the Banking Commission, and was a member of the Business Regulation Commission. Mr. Fincher sat as president and or vice president of many corporations and organizations. He was the founder of the Boulevard National Bank, served on the Orange Bowl Committee, various Catholic charities, Miami Heart Fund, Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, President and member of Eaton Foundation (University of Miami), Chairman of Miami Heart Association, Vice President of Miami Beach Chamber Commerce and most recently the winner of the 2002 Peace and Unity award for assisting the political process in the Black Community in the early 60s. Dick has generously and limitlessly supported the Community; one example is his construction of the Camillus House Chapel in Miami. Dick had a life full of friends and loves. He was married to movie starlet Gloria De Haven and successful stockbroker Jane Fincher. When Dick Fincher walked in a room he carried a strong handsome presence with a lot of energy. He was loved by his children, friends and family and will be missed. The services will be held at St. Rose De Lima Church at 415 N.E. 105st, Miami Shores Tuesday August 13th, 2002. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catholic Hospice, Tel#(305) 649-2911.
