Richard Schmunk

SCHMUNK, RICHARD, long time resident of Homestead passed away August 24th at Saint Anns Center in South Miami. He was born in Lander Sarkachiwan Canada, grew up in Portland Oregon, the son of Herman and Catherine Schmunk. He served in the US Army Air Corp in World War II. His Army service brought him to Homestead Army Air Base in 1943 and he never left South Florida. He met and married Charlotte Geronimo, a life long resident of Florida City and Homestead. They had one son Michael. Richard was the town Clerk and the first City Manager for the City of Florida City during the 1950's - 1960's. He also served as a Vice President at the First National Bank of Homestead until 1968. he was self- employed in his later years in real estate. He enjoyed golf and was an avid wood carver and sports fan. He was a life member of the BPOE and the Redlands Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Charlotte of Homestead, his son Michael and daughter-in-law Linda of Melbourne Florida, and brothers Herbert & family and Jerry in Oregon and grandson's Jon of Colorado and Michael Scott (Jammie) of Texas. He had two great-granddaughters, Allyson of Colorado and Linda Meagan of Texas, also a step great-granddaughter Miranda of Texas and Karen Wallace former granddaughter-in-law of Colorado. Services are scheduled for10:00 AM on Monday, August 28th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Homestead with a visitation from 5:00 - 9:00 PM at Branam Funeral Home in Homestead on Sunday, August 27th.
