Robert Levenson Obituary

ROBERT KENT Levenson

December 19, 1934 - May 6, 2024

Pinecrest, Florida - Robert passed away on May-6,2024 at age 89. He has been a resident of Pinecrest for 48' years.

Robert(Bob) was born to Jack and Edna Minisman Levenson in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a graduate of Ramsey High School and the University of Alabama and was a member of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity. He met his wife, Barbara, at the University and married shortly after meeting. They were married for 68 yea rs.

After college they moved to Columbus, Ohio, Barbara's home town, where Bob joined Merrill Lynch as a broker. He remained at Merrill for 39 years and retired as a Vice President. Both of their sons were born in Columbus, and they were happily settled with Barbara being elected to the school board, the first woman to hold elected office in Columbus.

Because of Bob's success as a broker they were transferred to Louisville, Kentucky, and then to Miami where they have happily remained ..

In Miami, Bob pursued two of his lifelong interests, sports and dogs. He began breeding and showing German Shepherds and finished eleven champions in the show ring. His kennel , Robar Shepherds, was known in many states and Canada.. He served for four years as the president of the Greater Miami Shepherd Club.

Bob was an avid sports fan, at one time having season tickets to Hurricanes football and basketball, Dolphins, Panthers and Marlins. He was an early supporter of women's' basketball. This was in keeping with his support of women as an early male feminist. He supported Barbara in all her endeavors including all three of the elections she won. Bob was an avid golfer his entire life starting at age five when his father put a club in his hand.

In 2002, preparing for retirement, Bob and Barbara bought a home in Quechee, Vermont where they spent summers for twenty years. They loved the community and Bob was an active supporter of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Shir Shalom Congregation.

Bob had a droll sense of humor passed on to his children and grandchildren and will be missed by those whose life he touched. He is survived by his wife Judge Barbara Levenson, his sons, Robert,Jr. (Robin Benedick),Bradley (Anthony Sears); his grandchildren Jacob and Jessica Levenson, and his support dog, Maggie.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, at eleven a.m. at Caballero Rivero Funeral Home, 8200 Bird Rd. For a zoom link, call 954-609-7705. In lieu of flowers, a charitable contribution in Bob's name to the Upper Valley Humane Society, PO Box789, Lebanon, NH 03766, or the Anti-Defamation League.org.

I never was privileged to make his acquaintance but one of the measures of parents is their children. I´ve been blessed to know Bob and what a fine man and cherished friend. May you rest easy.

I was so very sorry to learn of Bob's death. I was just speaking about the 2 of you last week in relation to the support of UM women's basketball. I can hear Bob's voice in my ear now "Do you know what Katie did..."
Jane & I will certainly make a gift in Bob's memory to the Upper Valley Humane Society.
Please accept our sincere condolences.
