Sandra Vaden Obituary

VANDEN, SANDRA K., 71, passed away on September 2, 2013 Sandy was born to the late Pearl and Frank Vanden Eynden in Toledo, Ohio. She moved to Miami in 1962, and in 1964 organized the Miami chapter of The La Leche League, a national organization promoting breast- feeding. Sandy graduated from Smith College in 1988, with a BA in Government and minors in Economics and International Relations. In addition she earned a Georgetown University certificate in Comparative Political & Economic Systems. She served as a legislative assistant for US Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole and also Congressman Dante Fascell in Washington, DC. She worked at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce as Director of Economic Development. Sandy was an active volunteer in many non-profit endeavors, focusing on community, youth and family oriented programs. She served on the Board of the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo since 1993 and was recently honored as Chairman Emeritus. Sandy was co-founder of CSSI, a coalition of churches supporting senior independence. She served on the Miami-Dade Public Library Advisory Board. She was named "Volunteer of the Year" by the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church for 45 years and served in many capacities. Sandy is survived by her sister Jane (Neil) Nielsen, daughters Christy (Jim) Creighton, Bonnie (Chris) Clifton, Tanya (Ed) Kozlowski, and 7 grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held on September 21, 2013 @ 2pm, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 11295 SW 57th Ave, Miami, FL 33156. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Cornerstone Hospice. www.cornerstonehospice.org
