Beverly Cheyne-Ritter Obituary
Beverly Joan Murdock (Cheyne-Ritter) passed away Jan. 24, 2015, with her family by her side. She has resided in Klamath County since 1947 in the Poe Valley, Langell Valley, Bonanza and Klamath Falls communities. She was a member of the St. Barnabas Church, a 4-H leader, a SMART volunteer, a Home Extension member, and played pinochle with the same group of friends for over 60 years. Bev worked for six years at LaPointe's and then was a rural mail carrier for 17 years. Over the years, she also worked and helped in the family store, Murdock's Shasta View Grocery. Always wanting to preserve and share the history of the Klamath Basin area with friends and family, Bev served as a member of the board of governors for the Shaw Library, co-chaired the writing of the Klamath County History Book, and was a longtime member of the Modoc County Historical Society. She was fascinated with family history and delved into genealogy, creating a priceless record for future generations of the family's immigration from Ireland, England, and Scotland and settlement in the West. Bev was an inspiration to all who met her. She welcomed friends and family with open arms, always with a hug, smile and food. She was known for remembering everyone's birthdays or anniversaries with a handpicked greeting card. She loved her gardening, whether it be flowers or vegetables, and her animals (cats, dogs, birds, lambs, chickens, and any stray that wandered near). Her passion for her family and friends was undeniable. She truly was the definition of compassion and friendship. Bev was born Sept, 27, 1930, in San Mateo, Calif., to James Maynard and Lillian Wells Murdock. She attended Klamath Union High School and graduated from Henley High School. Bev is survived by siblings, The Reverend Thomas Murdock of Portland, and Kathryn Wells Murdock and Dave Welker, of Vancouver, Wash.; children, Patricia Card, of Klamath Falls, and Tim and Marilyn Roberts, of Dairy; grandchildren, Chris and Brooke Long (Ashlynn and Casey), Jim and Ann Long (Averlynn and Raidon), Bryn and Kelsey Card (Delaney), Drew and Emma Card (Alex and Dominic), Ammie and Chris Oliver (Bryt, Timmy, and Nathen), and Jimmy Roberts (Gavin); nieces and nephews, Ken and Jennifer Andrieu (Jordan and Jasmine), Heather and Robert Roberts (Quin, Owen, and Jorie), and Jeff Murdock; special extended family, Lorna Wilson, Leah and Tim Tyree, Mark and Ann Stewart (Jordan and Ryan), John and Stacy Wilson (Allen, Destiny, and Christian), Brian and Cheri Stewart (Brooks and Alden), Darla and Beau Smith (Jesse and Weston), Karla and Randy Kinney (Randy, Jr. and Cameron), and the families of Bruce and Diane Ritter, Marsha and Erv Sweet, and Paul and Carol Ritter; cousins, Jean Hilyard, Jim and Carol Creswell, Dean and Geri Wells, Jane and George Demetrakos, Mary and Rod Klus, Dorothy Smith, and Marilyn Stewart. Bev is also survived by many special friends and family members from A to Z. Bev was preceded in death by her father and mother; baby brother, William; daughter, Joan Lynn; son-in-law, David Card; Jack McFall, Alvin Cheyne, Walter Ritter, Bob Wilson, Jolene Wilson and many dear friends. At Bev's request, a celebration will be in June at Mt. Laki Cemetery, date and time to be announced. Bev wanted to ensure that the flowers were starting to bloom and the sun would be shining down on all of her family and friends.
