Frank Donald "Pop" Compton
Frank Donald "Pop" Compton, 89, of Bristol, Tenn., formerly of Grundy, Va., passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at his home.
Born in Grundy, Va., he was the son of the late Hibbert and Effie Jane (Clevinger) Compton. He was a longtime resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Grundy Baptist Church. Frank served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and worked in the mining industry and enjoyed golfing and the UPIKE Bears.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Myra Ann (Bevins) Compton; brother, Agie Compton; and sisters, Beatrice Musick and Josephine Rife.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Donna (Ronnie) Horn of Grundy, Va.; his son, Frank Donald (Susan) Compton II of Bristol, Tenn.; grandchildren, Chad (Bethany) Thompson and children, Blake (Alyssa) Thompson, Blair Thompson, Bree Thompson, Aly Lockard, Luke Lockard, Ben Lockard, Eli Lockard and Lydia Lockard, Amy (Shannon) Colley and daughter, Ashlynn Colley, Amanda (Donnie) Johnson and children, Logan Johnson and Lexie Johnson, Tigh (Lisa) Compton, Michael (Jourdan) Hackney and children, Wesley Hackney and Christian Hackney, Tabitha (Adam) Smith and daughter, Lydia Smith; brother, Jack Compton of Staunton, Va.; sisters, Lee Winebarger of Knoxville, Tenn., Yvonne (John) Wilfong of Savannah, Ga., and Carol Johnson of North Carolina. He is also, survived by special friend, Net Mullins, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the New Hope Christian Church Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 12 p.m. at the New Hope Christian Church with Dale Blankenship and William L. Neeley officiating. Burial will follow in the Compton Family Cemetery on Elkins Branch.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Hurley, Steve Hagy, Chad Thompson, Tigh Compton, Michael Hackney, Adam Smith and Blake Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Fuller, David Addington, Sang Nguyen, Jack Spurgeon, Rodney Lee, Jay Rife, Sammy Ratliff, Charles Ratliff, Timmy Lee, and Staff of Cracker Barrell at Exit 7.
Full Military Rites will be conducted at the church by members of American Veterans Honor Guard Association Incorporated of Richlands, Va.
