Mary Guy Obituary
December 6, 1940 - January 30, 2022
MARION, Va.
Mary Jean Guy, 81, passed at her home after a long illness on Sunday, January 30, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard James Bolling and Ruth McCloud Bolling; husband Walter Wayne Guy; brothers, Richard Bolling, Thomas Bolling; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Dolinger, Mildred Kane; in-laws, Ivan and Aileen Guy, Marshall and Ruby Guy, David Guy.
She was a graduate of Marion Senior High School, Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and UNC Chapel Hill where she obtained her nurse practitioner degree. She worked for many years at South Western State Hospital and Smyth County Community Hospital until she finally retired at 74. After she retired she was active in the family company Med-Trip Express. Many of the riders often mentioned her kindness.
Mary Jean's favorite things were gardening, and feeding a kitchen full of people her excellent cooking. The card games that followed would inevitably end in laughter. She liked to keep busy and was constantly working at something. She enjoyed helping people and did it often and without complaint.
She is survived by her son, Steve Guy and wife, Kaye; granddaughter, Heather Lewis and husband, Mike; son, Monty Guy; grandson, Seth Guy; siblings, Barbara Blevins, Lynn Reeves and husband, Gerald, Debbie Davis, Mike Bolling and wife, Leigh; and many nieces and nephews; dear friend Gail Scott; beloved dog, Blaze.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Diane Letner and Teisha Oakes for all their assistance during her illness.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Rose Lawn Cemetery on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 2 p.m. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. We hated to hear of Jeans passing. She was so nice to have our grandson, Aiden Blevins, over to spend time with Seth. They are good friends. She always was so very proud of Seth and we had good talks whenever we seen her. May our prayers and love comfort you in your time of need.
