Mildred Rutherford Obituary
February 25, 1937 - October 27, 2025
Mildred Ruth Rutherford, a beacon of unconditional love and kindness, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, in Blountville, Tennessee, at the age of 88. She was born on February 25, 1937, to the late Doyle and Victoria Rutherford. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Kelcy Rutherford (Margaret), Dora Webb (Harold) and Kenneth Rutherford (Pansy); and nephew, Craig Rutherford.
Mildred's legacy is carried on by her devoted son, Joel Hutcheson, and her dearest friend, Kay Laspina,who know how lucky they were to have her. She was a cherished aunt to her nieces and nephews, Doris Hall, Donna Turner, Doyle Rutherford, Frank Rutherford, David Rutherford, and Beth Anderson.
Mildred's passion for knowledge and her love of literature were the cornerstones of her career as a beloved teacher. Her former students would often stop her out in public and tell her what an impact she made in their lives. Her dedication to education extended beyond the classroom as she spent countless hours volunteering at local libraries, where she shared her love of reading and writing with the community. Her presence at the library was as constant as the books on the shelves, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.
A gathering for friends and family will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Blevins Funeral Home from 1 pm to 2 pm. A memorial service will follow with Pastors John Cowell and Ann Aichinger officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Avoca Branch Library in memory of Mildred.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to The Waters of Bristol and Oakmont at Gordon Park for all the kind and compassionate care shown to Mildred during her time of need.

We will deeply miss dear Mildred. We loved being her neighbor for a number of years, and she always treated our children like they were her grandchildren. Even though we hate to hear of her passing, we also rejoice with her that's she's with the Lord.

Mildred was my 9th grade teacher & one of my very favorites. She taught us lessons of life, and how to get along in the world in addition to our English studies. I loved her!
