Peggy Cox Obituary
June 24, 1937 - June 21, 2023
Peggy Widner Cox, age 85, of Bristol, Va., at Bristol Reginal Medical Center.
She was raised by her grandmother, Sally "Mam" Widner. Peggy was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved to cook and made the best biscuits. She loved the Lord, was good to everyone and loved camping. Peggy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Peggy was a member of Community Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray Blevins and Lula Tish Widner Hand; her husband, Bill Cox; stepfather, Clarence Hand; son, Billy Ray Cox; and brothers, Kenneth Hand and Chester Hand.
Survivors include her daughters, Pam Davenport (Rick) and Sheila Mullins (Mark); sons, David Cox (Tammy) and Tim Cox (Pam); sisters, Sally Lane (Frank) and Sondra Gobble (Junior); brothers, Bud Hand. Cliff Hand (Tina), and Billy Hand (Charlene); grandchildren, Jeremey, Julie, Hannah, Blake and Noah; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Andrea; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Betty Shaver and Grace.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2023, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Leonard and the Rev. Todd Crusenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Cemetery in Abingdon, Va. Pallbearers will be Blake Cox, Noah Cox, Chris Knupp, Josh Hayden, James Orras and Jeremy Statzer. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m., Saturday prior to the service.
