Prentiss Hallenbeck Obituary

Prentiss Wilmer Hallenbeck died on November 12, 2025, in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He was 93. This obituary is appearing here because Prent's connections with Bristol ran deep. Until he retired, he managed the Paine Webber (now UBS) stockbrokerage office in Bristol for more than 30 years.

Prent was born on March 24, 1932, in Catskill, New York, to Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Hallenbeck. He graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the varsity soccer team. During college, Prent was a member of Navy ROTC, and completed five years active service after graduation.

On June 26, 1954, Prent married Marjorie Witt Richardson in Grundy, Virginia. After Prent's first postings in other satellite offices, he and Marj settled in Bristol, where they raised three sons and one daughter. Prent enjoyed a wide circle of friends in Bristol, and participated in a variety of activities. He was instrumental in bringing the Bristol Tigers, a minor league baseball franchise, to town, an achievement which brought him great personal satisfaction because he was, at heart, a baseball fanboy. He was a board member for Bristol Hospital, president of the Bristol Country Club, and coached a team in the Avoca Little League for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife, Marj; his three sons and their spouses: Prent, Jr. and Gabrielle, Gerald and Sandy, and Kurt and his ex-spouse Melinka; his daughter, Valerie Poling; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, an exemplary father, and an indulgent grandparent. He was also, for his family, a force of nature. He will be remembered. He will be missed.

A memorial service is TBD. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

He was a wonderful man. I was best friend´s with his oldest son "Prenty" and lived on the same street in Tennessee Hills. I spent so many days (and nights!) at the Hallenbeck house and he and Marj were always so welcoming. The whole family was a big reason I had such a happy childhood. He was a brilliant man who did so much for Bristol and the community. He had an impact on so many and will be remembered!

I remember Prent from the day he first came to the offices of Abbott, Proctor & Paine in Bristol, likely 1958. We worked together until I left to finish college in 1960 and during the summers of 1961 and 1962 when I would return to fill in during employee vacations. I remember Prent as a very dynamic person in the brokerage office. Rest in Peace Prent. Our condolences to the family.

He was the most wonderful grandfather and great grandfather. Words cannot express how much his presence will be missed. He was happy, filled with love, and was truly an example of what a wonderful man living a full life should look like. I love you Bop Bop, and I will continue to strive to live like you did!
