October 6, 1929 - October 7, 2025

Sara Cole Aubitz, 96, of Salem, VA, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Woodhaven Nursing Home in Blue Ridge, VA. She was born in Saltville, VA, on October 6, 1929, a daughter of the late Charles David Cole and Hattie Loretta Morrison Cole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Aubitz; her siblings, Charles Cole and wife, Addie, Velma Taylor and husband, Charles, Judy Little and husband, Bill, Bob Cole and wife, Jean, Jim Cole and wife, Ann, Jean Doss and husband, Roy, and Ina Widener and husband, Daily.

She had lived in Washington County, VA, for several years before moving to Salem, VA, in 2005. Before her retirement, she had spent many years as the manager of Four Seasons Ski Lodge in Beach Mountain, NC. She enjoyed hiking, which included walking on the Damascus Creeper Trail, white water river rafting, traveling, and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Phillip Lutheran Church in Roanoke, VA.

Sara is survived by her two children, Sharon N. Munsey and husband, Randy, of Fort Myers, FL and Bill "David" Neeley and wife, Cheryle, of Roanoke, VA; three grandchildren, Bryan Munsey and wife, Katie, F.D. Singleton, IV and wife, April, and Brooke NiCole Dean and husband, Jared; six great grandchildren, Victoria Overstreet, Gage Singleton, Cora Singleton, Owen Singleton, Kinsley Dean, and Levi Dean; one great-great granddaughter, Mabel Mae Hale; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor David Derrick officiating. Music will be provided by Mary Munsey. The committal service and interment will follow at Mock Cemetery in Damascus, VA. Pallbearers will be Bryan Munsey, F.D. Singleton, IV, Jared Dean, Gage Singleton, Randy Munsey, and David Widener. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rick Little, David Cole, Jim Cole, Mike Cole, Doug Neely, and Don Neely. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210, or St. Phillip Lutheran Church, 8115 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, VA 24019. Condolences for the family may be sent and viewed by visiting www.garrettfuneralhome.com.
