1944 - 2026
Arlin Ray Young was born in Nashville, Arkansas on Christmas Day, 1944, to Ila Mae and Cecil Loyd Young. He spent his early life on the family farm until they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from Fort Worth Technical High School. After graduation, Arlin joined the United States Air Force, in 1963. He faithfully served his country until 1967. At that time he met and married Mary Anne Patterson. Together they had three daughters, Julie, Heather, and Emily. Later he relocated to Sherman, Texas and began working for Texas Instruments/Raytheon. In 1979, He met and married the love of his life, Joyce Young, and with her two daughters, Sheila and Sheryl, created a blended family of five. In 1981 they added a sixth girl, Sarah and the family became complete.
Later in life, Arlin and his family moved to Porter, Texas, where he worked for Haliburton until he retired.
In August of 2017, after Hurricane Harvey took their home, they moved to Venus, Texas and started a new life. While in Venus, he continued his woodworking hobby and made many new friends. He passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 14, 2026.
He leaves behind him his wife of 46 years, Joyce Young. Daughters Sheila Diane Harris, Julie Anne Stephenson and husband Tommy, Sheryl Denise Yarbrough and husband Tony, Heather Rae Tromp, Emily Louise Pemberton and husband Kenny, and Sarah Lynn Kippes and husband Shawn. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters Joann Vandiver and husband Walter, and Mary Ballew and husband Robert as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his older brother Loye Wayne Young and his parents, Cecil Loyd and Ila Mae Young.
Arlin was a gentle and quiet man whose memory will be a blessing to all who knew him. He will have a graveside service at Friendship Cemetery in Sherman, Texas, on March 28, 2026, at 1 pm.
