Brooklyn Shay Barker

Our little angel, Brooklyn Shay Barker earned her wings and passed from this world at the age of 22 months into the blessed arms of Jesus on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 at Cook Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas. Services were held at Mountain Valley Funeral home on Dec. 28, 2012 with interment in Caddo Cemetery, Joshua, Texas.

Her family has honored her grave with both love and tears, but knows she is now in a better place. Brooklyn was born on Feb. 22, 2011 in Sherman, Texas, the beloved only child of Brittney Walker and Buster Barker. She was born with a rare genetic condition and faced many challenges during her short time here as do many of her "family" of children with the same disorder, but met them with incredible tenacity and spirit.

Everyone who knew Brooklyn loved her dearly and will miss her.

She is survived by grandparents, Delores Lowery, Kelly Walker of Denison, Texas, and Jeff Walker of Sherman; great-grandmothers, Gail Gray of Denison, Judy Stanley of Sherman; aunts, Lindsay Duncan and Haley Walker of Sherman; uncle, Oscar Barker and wife Diana of Sherman; great aunts, Carmyn Riddle of Denison, Susan Meridith and Carolyn Odem of Sherman; friends, Courtney Dhane and Carly Cherry of Sherman, and many cousins and extended family members.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Rhizo Kids International, 50 Cross Creek Lane, Sylacauga, Alabama 3501 to support the ongoing research for this disorder. Brooklyn's fellow angels and information about this disorder can be viewed at the Rhizokids.com website.
