Kyle Johnson Obituary

After a long term battle with cystic fibrosis, a lung transplant and cancer, Kyle Matthew Johnson died on September 28, 2014 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 38. He leaves behind his wife, Laura Luque de Johnson.

Kyle was born August 24, 1976 to father, Ronald Johnson, and mother, Joyce Johnson. He grew up in a large, loving family. He graduated from Texas A&M University and received his PhD in molecular and cell biology from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Kyle married his classmate, Laura Luque de Johnson, on May 3, 2003. Shortly after graduation, they relocated to Memphis, Tenn. where Kyle worked as a clinical research associate for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, working at many international sites.

Kyle had a secret love of archeology. His love for science and helping people culminated in an accomplished career where, through research and compassion, Kyle helped countless children battling illnesses like him. Kyle was a kind soul that made it impossible not to love him.

Kyle is survived by his wife, father and mother, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Traci Johnson, his nephews, Alex, Garrett and Cade, and numerous aunts, uncles and close cousins.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at Dallas Children's Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital, St. Paul Hospital, Zale Lipshy Hospital and Southwest Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at Parkside Baptist Church in Denison, Texas at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014.

What great memories of all the fun times I had of our kids playing and growing up together. I knew Kyle was a terrific, special and gifted person from the time he was born. What a honor for us to have crossed paths. I know you have immeasurable pride for all his accomplishments and what God has given to you and literally the world through him. Please be assured that our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I remember when Kyle joined St Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was then a post-doctoral fellow in the lab next door. His smile and kindness is what I remember the most. I met his former mentor at the first conference I ever attended. At the mention of Kyle her face lit up! She had nothing but praises for him. That is how I knew Kyle to be an extraordinary human being filled with smarts, love, kindness and compassion. I am so grateful to have ever met him. I want to express my profound sympathy to the ones who loved him the most. I will always remember him smiling!
