Shirley Talley Obituary

DENISON - Shirley Lou Talley ended a year-and-a-half battle with leukemia and entered into the hands of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 23, 2012 at Texoma Medical Center. Shirley's memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2012 at Parkside Baptist Church in Denison with Dr. Chet Haney officiating.

Shirley was born on September 11, 1940 in Denison, the daughter of Cecil and Lucille Cook. She graduated from Denison High School, Grayson County College, and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She was employed by Pillsbury, Champion Cooler, and Associates Investments. She was a teacher at Sam Houston Elementary in Denison for 12 years. She gave private piano lessons for 10 years. Loving music, she served the Lord as pianist at Parkside Baptist for 43 years, Hyde Park Baptist for more than two years, and Hyde Park Presbyterian for more than three years.

She was a member of Parkside Baptist where she taught Sunday school, directed the children's choir, and served on several church committees. She was an active member of Parkside's Pacesetters group. Shirley enjoyed traveling, attending her grandchildren's activities, gardening, reading, watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys (she shared a birthday with Tom Landry), cheering for Jeff Gordon while watching NASCAR, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Norman Talley of Denison; sister, Brenda Galgan and husband, Michael of Dallas; daughter, Dawn Simpson and husband, Robert of San Antonio; son, Craig Talley and wife, Kristi of Denison; granddaughter and texting buddy, Kaitlyn Simpson "Love you the mostest!" and grandson, Taylor Simpson of San Antonio; and grandson, Harrison Talley of Denison.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Cook and mother, Lucille Cook of Denison.

Shirley left such a wonderful mark on my life and I was delighted to see her recently. She was my first and favorite piano teacher starting when i was only 5 years old and helped me develop a life-long talent that has been a blessing now for over 40 years. We should all be so lucky to teach children and develop skills in others that bring joy to this world. The world has lost a truly talented and gifted soul and I'm better for having the pleasure of knowing her.
