Vera Keen Obituary

Funeral services for Vera Myrtle Henson "Cookie" Keen, 93 year old Grove Hill resident, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, August 13 at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard. Brother Steve Walker will officiate. Burial will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery near Leonard. Family visitation will be from 6 -8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12.

Mrs. Keen was born Feb. 2, 1918 at Bonham. Her parents were Isaac Martin and Lizzie Mae Compton Henson. When she was born, she was so small that her daddy nicknamed her "Cookie". She married Alvin Keen Aug. 29, 1937 at Grove Hill and they were married for 55 years. She enjoyed working in her flower bed and garden and playing dominoes, either 42 or regular dominoes. She also loved and cared for all of her family members very much. She was a homemaker and a member of the Randolph Baptist Church. She passed away at her home Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011.

She is survived by her eight sons, Alvin Lee Keen, John Russell Keen, Gene William Keen and Michael George Keen, all of Bonham, Joe Wayne Keen of Campbell, Robert David Keen of Sherman, Charles "Buddy" Keen of Huntsville and Jerry Lewis Keen of Ore City; her four daughters, Nettie Mae Shiflett, Wanda Sue Hall, Polly Ann Cuthbertson and Linda Fae Hall, all of Bonham; her 30 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, nine great-greatgrandchildren and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Walter Martin Keen and Donald Van Keen; three grandsons, Jason Scott Hall, Blake Edward Keen and Randy Michael Keen as well as her four brothers and five sisters.
