Clarence "Smitty" Schmitt

Clarence "Smitty" Schmitt, 89, passed away peacefully at the home of his son, Jeff, on February 22, 2015. He was born on March 14, 1925 in Zeeland, North Dakota to Henry and Bertha Schmitt. Clarence served in the US Army, and after coming to Washington State, he worked at Olympian Stone, at a cookie factory, owned a restaurant "The Seventh Spot" in Seattle, and was an auctioneer. He married Darlene Knoblich on November 26, 1952 and together they had four children. The family moved to Stanwood to continue the life he loved. Dad was the happiest being on the farm. He raised dairy replacement heifers, and all kinds of smaller animals, and horses. He loved farming, and owned and operated many different kinds of farming machinery. Dad never stopped working; you could always see him out in the fields; he was even baling hay this past summer of 2014. He is survived by his daughters, Denise Nemo (Ric) and Vickie Coward (Tom); and son, Jeff Schmitt (Dawn); grandchildren, Jason Schmitt, Andy Nemo, Amy Schmitt (Melana), Angie Schmitt (Shannon), Jacob Schmitt (Megan), Darlena and Jacqueline Schmitt; great grandchildren, Shailee Sue Marie Nemo, Jeffrey Schmitt, Taylor Schmitt, and Eli Burley; sisters, Edna and Betty; brothers, Delmer, Harvey, Donnie, and Melvin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; son, Rick; daughter-in-law, Doreen; sisters, Florence and Verna; brothers, Raymond, Milton, and Werner. Services will be Saturday, March 7, 2015 11:00 a.m., at Camano Chapel with a reception to follow. Burial at Anderson Cemetery, Stanwood.
