Connie Dana Obituary

"A little bitty woman, who cast a really big shadow" Services for Connie Sorie Dana will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 10 am, Flint Baptist Church, Flint, Texas. Connie was born in Enfield, North Carolina on May 21, 1945 to Thomas and Elizabeth Sorie. After completing her education, culminating in a master's degree from North Carolina State University in Public Administration, she joined the United States Army. She was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the Trans-portation Corps in February 1976 and served 20 years on active duty retiring as a major. Also, in 1976 she met Tom, a serving Army officer, whom she would marry on December 17, the following year in Heidelberg Castle, Heidelberg, Germany. Today marks what would have their 41st year of marriage. Upon retirement Connie and Tom built their dream home in Stanwood, WA, where they lived for seven years. Connie designed every aspect of her new home. While in Washington, Connie became a Master Gardener, a lay minister at Marysville United Methodist Church, served on the board of Senior Services of Snohomish County, and was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship. In October 2003, Connie and Tom moved to the Tyler, TX, area on Lake Palestine. In Tyler she again continued her life of service in her church, Lanes Chapel UMC, Bible Study Fellowship Leadership and Wesley Student Ministry at Tyler Junior College. In February 2009 she felt the Lord calling her to a ministry in support of wounded and sick soldiers. After much prayer, she founded a group she called "Angel Chefs" whose mission would be to cook meals for service members and their families while they were undergoing treatment for catastrophic wounds at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX, and living in Fisher Houses. They have since made more than 25 mission trips, each lasting three to four days. If you had a green thumb, loved plants, loved to talk plants, you had Connie's full attention. She also started a business she named "Little Mansion Industries" where she put her professional sewing skills to work creating high-end Home Décor projects. In their spare time Connie and Tom loved to travel, whether by plane, train, car, or RV. They escaped the Texas heat each summer traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Connie was recent past-president of the Mildred Floyd Garden Club. She and Tom are members of TIDBITS which satisfied her love for gourmet cooking. She enjoyed her girlfriends of GRITS and Roses. She was an active member of Flint Baptist Church where she and Tom both actively served in ministry. She is survived by her loving family including husband, Tom; her mother, Elizabeth Sorie Griffin of Fayetteville, NC; one sister and three brothers, all in North Carolina; brothers and sister-in-law Steve Dana and wife Noreen, Snohomish, WA, Rick Dana, Lake Stevens, WA, and Melody Dana, Lake Stevens; and her best friend of 50+ years Claudia Jackson of Tyler. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity in memory of Connie. John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful."
