David Hunsinger Obituary

David William "Bill" Hunsinger passed away on September 28, 2025 in Lynnwood, Washington at the age of 96 from a combination of old age and dementia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Marianne ("Memo" to her friends and family), his great granddaughter, Leighton Sanders, and his former son-in-law, Brian Cohee. Bill is survived by his five children: Bill Hunsinger (Kathy), Mike Hunsinger (Debbie), Carol Thomas (Randy), Paul Hunsinger (Lisa), and Shelby Hunsinger, as well as 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Bill was born in Los Angeles in 1929 to Dave and Shirley Hunsinger. He met his future wife, Marianne Limback, while attending the University of Washington, and they were married in 1949.

Bill promptly went to work for his father-in-law, Tony Limback, founder and owner of Limback Lumber Company. Over the years Bill became Tony's best worker and closest friend. When Tony retired, Bill became the owner of Limback Lumber. Eventually, Bill's sons, Bill and Paul, took over enough of the responsibilities and ownership of the lumber yard to allow Bill and Memo to spend nearly four decades of winters away at their homes in Kauai and in Rio Verde, Arizona. Currently, Limback Lumber Company is owned and operated by Bill's son, Paul, with his sons, Mark and Spencer. In 2030 Limback will celebrate 100 years of doing business in Ballard.

Bill and Memo were extremely generous with their love, loyalty, energy, attention, and support to all five of their children. Bill's four passions were his family, Limback Lumber, Husky football (a season ticket holder since 1960), and his golf game and friends at Everett Golf & Country Club. Bill frequently re-shuffled the order of importance between the four. Husky football usually came out on top.

One of Bill's and Memo's favorite expressions, always uttered sardonically when someone died as a result of a particularly reckless act, was that he/she "died doing what they loved". But Bill truly did die (and live) doing what he loved, with good nature and a sense of humor. Even during his final years and final days, when he had no short-term memory and was acutely aware of his dire situation, he was upbeat, kind, polite, and appreciative to his family, friends, and wonderful caregivers at Chateau Pacific in Lynnwood. He will be dearly missed.

Earlier today

Bill was such a nice man, I had the pleasure of knowing him for over 40 years through Everett Golf and CC. We played a few rounds of golf over the years, one memorable one was in Kauai in a driving rain storm that required us to walk because the course was too flood. He was always tinkering to find the right clubs and over the years he purchased many a set from me and other pros before me at Everett. Every year he had the boys and Shelby out for the Fathers Day round amplifying the importance of family. I know he missed Marianne but now they are together. My condolences to the Hunsinger family, I know they will miss their dad, but he lives on in all of you!
