Dennis Krumm Obituary

Dennis Krumm, age 80, of Tulalip, WA, passed away on October 9th, 2025. He is survived by his wife Ruthanna (Randi) Krumm; daughters Alexis Krumm and Zoe Krumm; and sisters Roberta (Robbi) Krumm and Rosiland (Roz) Krumm.

Born on August 30th, 1945, in Bremerton, WA, Dennis grew up on the shores of Wollochet Bay in Gig Harbor. He was the son of Robert and Bernice Krumm. Dennis was deeply bonded to his twin sisters, Robbi and Roz, and their connection grew stronger with every passing year.

Dennis attended Peninsula High School, where he lettered in basketball, football, and track, excelling in pole vaulting. At Western Washington University, he studied geography and cartography, fields that matched his curiosity about the world. It was at Western where Dennis met Randi and married soon after. In 1968, they moved to Hermosa Beach, located on the Tulalip Indian Reservation and it was in this setting that they began their family.

Dennis was an amazing father to Alexis and Zoe. Their childhood was filled with weekend sails around Puget Sound and summer trips to the San Juan Islands. As adults, Dennis shared special adventures with his daughters, including trips to Chicago, Hawaii, Antarctica, and most recently New York City.

Professionally, Dennis was recruited to the Scott Paper Company (later Kimberly-Clark). He was respected for his ability to connect thoughtfully across the workforce, listening deeply and communicating clearly with forestry and machine workers alike. After 28 years he stepped away and began consulting with the Anacortes Refinery and the Providence Hospital Board. Beyond work, Dennis invested in his community: serving on the Marysville School Board, supporting the Girl Scouts organization, and coaching youth basketball. He was an early member of Milltown Sailing Association where he forged countless friendships and shared his love of the water with fellow sailors.

Dennis's life was enriched by an extraordinary circle of friends, lasting connections from school, boating, and the Hermosa Beach neighborhood. His friends made his life richer, and he valued each relationship deeply, finding joy in shared experiences and lively conversations.

From his earliest days on Wollochet Bay to years spent cruising, boating was the heartbeat of Dennis's life. Dennis and Randi shared remarkable sailing adventures including a 23-day voyage from Oahu, circumnavigating Vancouver Island, and enjoying favorite local destinations such as Langley, Blake Island, and Port Ludlow.

In his final days, Dennis held close the values that had always guided him; a deep love for family, a spirit of adventure, and a curiosity that never dimmed. He was surrounded by Randi, Alexis, and Zoe and together, they shared stories and moments that celebrated the life they built as a family.

Dennis's legacy is woven into the lives of all who knew him. He showed us that life is richest when shared and that curiosity is a lifelong pursuit. He encouraged us to keep seeking new experiences, nurturing relationships, and finding happiness in both the extraordinary and the everyday. In honoring Dennis, we honor the best in ourselves and in each other.

In place of flowers, donations to a favorite charity can be made in Dennis's name. Dennis's family would like to acknowledge the care he received in his final days from Providence Hospice of Snohomish County.

Dennis and I worked at Scott Paper together for many years. At one point, we team taught a program called "Fundamentals of Supervision". Being an engineer, I just read from the workbook but Dennis added a lot of value.
We also did a lot of boating together. In the early 1980's, Dennis convinced me to buy a San Juan 24 instead of a San Juan 21. It turned out to be a great choice and my wife, Lori, and I raised our kids on that little boat. More recently, Lori and I decided to buy a power boat and were ready to make an offer on one. Dennis told me that he knew some guys who had the same make and model and might want to sell. It turned out that we bought from those guys and saved a lot of money.
The last time I saw Dennis, he and Randi were at the Langley Harbor on Fanny. I was there with Lori, our daughter and son-in-law and two granddaughters. Dennis came aboard and was polite enough not to comment about what the cabin of a 34 foot boat looks like with all the stuff for 6 people and a dog crammed everywhere.
I'll miss him.

We knew Dennis through his sister, Robbi. Dennis was Robbi's "go-to" guy especially when things got lumpy or lost in the fog. Some good memories. Sending our sincere condolences to the family and friends.

I knew Dennis through his HS classmate & my sister, Georgia Ellison Sweeney. He was out-going and fun-seeking but also a very caring man. He always struck me as bigger than life and I enjoying following his adventures along with those of his classmates over the years. I simply want to acknowledge Dennis's life as one well-lived. He accomplished a great deal but most of all he made a good life with Randy and he helped raise two woderful daughters. He loved being on the water from a very young age andbhe shared that joy with his family and friends. Sail away now, Dennis, as you find new adventures. My sincere condolences go to all those who knew and loved him and will miss him, especially his wife and daughters.

I considered Dennis my best friend for the 20 years I've known him. We loved challenging each other with our knowledge and different perspectives. I learned so much from him. We were competitors on the sailboat race course. On the rare occasion that I won, he reminded me that "every dog has his day." That truth has stuck with me in many different ways. I thought I knew everything to know about sailboats, but every time we disagreed on a detail, I'd find out that he was correct. We took a multiday trip to the Annapolis boat show around 2009 and he recalled the honor of sailing with the midshipmen there. He told me that Linda was a real trooper for sharing a room with someone that snored like a freight train. After he bought the Fanny, we shared many buddy cruises with him and Randi. He handled the transition to power with grace and enjoyed the peace and quiet of a deserted anchorage. I know how many who knew him feel because I will miss Dennis greatly.

Heartfelt Love, Sympathy and Unending Prayers. Dennis was one of the kindest sincere caring guys that I have ever known...quite teary eyed right now. Dennis was very handsome and extremely humble. I miss you Dennis. Love, Laurel Lundgren Parratt
