Doris Eileen Reiner

Doris Eileen Reiner, 93, died November 13, 2009, at Regency Care Center in Monroe, Washington.
Doris was born April 13, 1916 to George and Eleanor Austin at the family homestead on the outskirts of Monroe. Her grandparents Grannis and Amelia Austin, were Tualco Valley pioneers.
Doris married Jake Reiner on March 28, 1936, and raised three children on the family farm, where Doris and Jake were the first to grow raspberries in the Tualco valley. Doris enjoyed her garden, and was an avid birdwatcher. She also loved the view of Mt. Pilchuck from her kitchen window.
Doris was very active in the community. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Monroe, a founder of the Tualco Community Club, and while she served as PTA president was instrumental in building the tennis courts at the junior high. Doris was a former president of Toastmistresses, and a founding member and past president of Monroe Historical Society. Doris was also a dedicated member of the Monroe Covenant church, where she directed the choir for over 25 years.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jake; and her youngest son, Alan.
She is survived by her daughter, Jaci Smith (husband, Richard); and her son, Dale Reiner (wife, Charlene). Doris was the beloved Grammy of her surviving nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Special Needs Unit at Regency for their loving and tender care of Doris over the last eight years.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2009, at Purdy & Kerr w/Dawson Funeral Home, 409 West Main Street, Monroe.
