Eva Hagen Obituary

Eva Mae (Heaton) Hagen

Eva Heaton Hagen passed away November 3, 2008. She was 95 years young! The woman raised children, (how we turned out is not her fault), had a career with the Federal Government and enjoyed the heck out of retirement!
She was quite a walker, participating in many Volksmarches. At 91, she walked 84 miles across England, along Hadrian's Wall. We don't know if she would consider this her crowning achievement, but she enjoyed herself (and the pubs) immensely.
Born in Ponca, Nebraska in 1913, she moved with her family to Cumberland, Wisconsin and graduated from high school there. In the 1930's she moved to Everett, Washington.
She remained in the Northwest, married her hometown sweetheart and except for the travel bug that hit her in her 50's, she remained in Seattle, Issaquah and Arlington until her death.
She came to Arlington in 1995 to be near her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was an inveterate volunteer: Red Cross, Arlington Museum and Issaquah Salmon Days and Chamber of Commerce. She liked to say that everything in the Arlington Museum was younger than she was! She remembered the first auto, airplane, radio and television. She lived through six wars and 16 Presidents. She was the oldest of seven and outlived six brothers and sisters.
She had a passion for needlework of any kind, but especially quilting. And beautiful quilts they are. Her special friends are members of the Issaquah and Arlington Quilt Guilds. She leaves behind many friends and family and touched so many with her beautiful spirit. She will be greatly missed.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on November 15, 2008, at Weller Funeral Home, 327 N. MacLeod Ave., Arlington, WA with an open house at her daughter's house, following the short service. Please, no flowers.
Memorial donations may be made to the animal shelter of your choice.

I was deeply saddened to read about Eva's passing. She was like a second grandma to me growing up in Issaquah, as I was very close to Jesse, her granddaughter, and Barbara, her daughter. One of my earliest and fondest memories of Eva included her teddy bear hampsters - how they had started out so cute, but soon multiplied into numbers that even she could not easily manage. Eva was always there to lend a helping hand, make us a meal, or give us a ride in her maroon minivan. She was our chaperone for so many trips, whether it be for the school orchestra, or camping in Twisp. Her radiant smile always brightened even the rainiest of Salmon Days weekends. Someone as special as Eva can never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hagen family during this difficult time. With my deepest of sympathies, Kerri.

Steve, Pat and Family,
Eva was a treasure ! I will never forget the day my sister introduced her to me...it was instant friendship. I have such wonderful memories of quilt retreats with her, quilt walks, potlucks and just sitting around the kitchen table with her. She was an inspiration to all ! No one could say "Yes, mam'" quite like her.
My thoughts are with you, Diane

WHAT A WOMAN WE HAVE LOST .. SO FULL OF LIFE AND ENERGY ,, ALWAYS ON THE GO ,, ALWAYS MORE TO DO ,, THINGS TO FINISH AND EVEN MORE TO BEGIN .. WHEN EVA MOVED IN THE APARTMENT ABOVE OUR STORE SHE WAS A BRIGHT SPOT IN MY DAY .. ALMOST EVERY DAY SHE WOULD STOP IN TO CHAT BEFORE GOING "UP" ABOUT JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ,, SHE WAS UP TO DATE ON ALL SUBJECTS .. MY GOODNESS ALL THE QUILTS SHE SHOWED ME THAT SHE HAD SEWN ... SHE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HER FACE ,, A SWEET HELLO .. DANG IF SHE DIDN'T GET ME TO SIGN UP FOR THE QUILT WALK BEFORE IT WAS EVEN AN EVENT .. AND SHE WAS ALWAYS BRINGING DOWN TREATS SHE HAD MADE TO "KEEP ME GOING" THIS VERY SPECIAL WOMAN WILL BE DEARLY MISSED .... AND ALWAYS IN MY HEART .. MARY ,, formerly of Ken's TV
