Forbes Johnson Obituary

Forbes Ray Johnson passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025. He was born on August 29, 1935, in Longview, Washington, to Raymond and Frances Johnson.

Forbes grew up in Everett, Washington, and graduated from Everett High School in 1953. He went on to attend the University of Washington, where he was a proud member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity. In 1956, Forbes volunteered for the Army and honorably served until 1958. After his service, he continued his education at Western Washington University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.

Forbes dedicated his career to helping others, beginning as a social worker at Denney Youth Center and later working with the Department of Corrections. He also served as an addiction counselor for Washington State and Lakeside-Milam Recovery Center. By the time of his retirement, Forbes achieved the position of Area Supervisor for Washington State's recovery programs, leaving a lasting impact on the field of addiction and recovery services.

A cornerstone of Forbes's life was his unwavering commitment to his own sobriety. At the time of his passing, he had proudly achieved 47 years of sobriety. His dedication to supporting others in their recovery was profound, and he touched countless lives as a mentor, and friend. Forbes's impact on the lives of others through his recovery journey remains an enduring legacy.

Outside of his professional and recovery work, Forbes embraced life with enthusiasm and passion. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, often traveling to Sturgis, South Dakota, for the annual motorcycle rally. Known for his sharp sense of humor, bold fashion choices, and love of chocolate, Forbes left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Forbes is lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Nicole (Sam), Michelle, and Deborah (Andrew); his sister, Jackie (Harry); and his grandchildren: Christopher, Drew, Baylee, and Jack.

He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.

A celebration of Forbes's life and his 47 years of sobriety will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 3:30PM at 34 Oakes Fellowship Hall, 1731 Baker Avenue, Everett, WA 98201. A small reception will follow from 3:30 PM to 5PM.

Forbes was my best man 45 years ago. What a character. Lots of good memories from years ago.
Forbes, Dick B, Bobby and I spent a lot of time together. Now I'm the last one left out of the old rat pack. Forbes helped me and many other people back then. His sense of humor was usually spot on.
I hope that after I'm gone that I'll be at a meeting somewhere and here that old BSA of his come pulling up to the curb.

Forbes was a tall, red headed, handsome and intelligent man who lived a full and gratifying life. I have nothing but happy memories of him and respect for the manner in which he lived out his final days. As a former sister-in-law, I will remember him with joy. Auntie Jackie
