Harriet DeBroeck Obituary
Harriet P. DeBroeck, age 96, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in Bothell, WA. Harriet was born in St. Louis, MO to parents John and Harriet Porter.
Harriet is preceded in death by her husbands, Edward DeBroeck (d. 2002) and Jack Stockman (d. 2025), her parents, sister Jeanne and brother-in-law Ben Russell, brother-in-law Jim L'Ecuyer and granddaughter Diana DeBroeck.
She is survived by her children John (Mary) DeBroeck, Anne (Pat) Merklin, Mary (Steve) Schuelke, Hally (Paul) Boucher, Lynn (Jeff Scholl) DeBroeck and Kay (Brian) Joubert, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her sister Glorianna L'Ecuyer, dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Sally (who now lives with Kay).
She loved to travel and spearheaded annual family camping trips all over the United States. She enjoyed these road trips and spending time in nature with her loved ones. The trails she walked and visited with her family and friends will forever be filled with fond memories. She was a huge lover of animals, especially dogs and in particular Golden Retrievers, who were a major part of her life and adventures over the years.
Being of service, volunteering and faith were all important to Harriet. She frequently attended daily Mass, said a daily Rosary and prayers for her family and friends. She quietly shared her faith with her actions, and part of her core values and beliefs were to volunteer on behalf of others. She did this regularly through the Catholic Church in the Serving Our Savior, Legion of Mary, and other church programs. For years, she delivered food to the Food Bank of St. Mary's, brought Holy Communion to and visited with new mothers and babies at Providence hospital, and supported the PAWS animal shelter's annual fundraising events.
Harriet was a gifted hostess who showed her love for others through her cooking and baking. At meals, there was always room for those who didn't have family around, especially during the holidays. Her family loved her Double Chocolate cake and wonderful Christmas cookies! She and her daughters, and later her granddaughters, would gather to make Christmas cookies for all to enjoy. She was frequently asked to make her beef stroganoff, homemade Green Goddess Salad, and coffee cake made from scratch to add to the specialness of celebrations. Harriet loved her family, her friends, the family dogs, and she will be missed dearly by all that knew her.
