Helen Stowell Obituary

Helen Jean Clingman Stowell

Helen Jean Clingman Stowell was born in Powers Lake, North Dakota on July 15, 1927. Helen passed away on June 13, 2005, at home in Snohomish, WA.
Helen came to Everett with her family in 1942. She attended Everett schools, graduating from Everett High School in 1946, having been a feature editor for the Kodiak, a member of the Girl's Club Cabinet, Hi Jinx and the Horizon Club. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church Choir, and later, Beta Sigma Phi.
Helen married Donald Stowell in 1946, and they raised four daughters, Jan Hoggard, of San Antonio, Texas, Cheri (John) Misich, of Snohomish, Gayle (Michael) Johnson, of Seattle, Washington, and Deanne (Ken) Rimes, of Savannah, Georgia.
After moving to Pullman, so that Don could finish college, the family lived in Seattle, then El Paso, Mc Allen, Dallas, and San Antonio, Texas. She worked in accounting at J.C. Penney stores and the Regional Office in Dallas for 27 years, retiring in 1991. In 1992, Helen and Don moved back to Everett. After Don's death, she moved to Snohomish where she lived in her happy little house for almost two years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Clingman and Elma C. Todd; siblings, Lee Clingman, Cheryl Schalka, and Donna Case; as well as Don, her husband of 57 years.
Besides her four proud and loving daughters, she also leaves several other "adopted" daughters, her best friend, Carmen Blyth, of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Also, her sister, Rosie Purkiser (Bob); brothers, Mike (Georgiana) and Dave Clingman; several nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends all over the United States.
To know her was to love her. She had a deep faith that never wavered, even through all of her illnesses. She was funny, compassionate, loving, and always there for her girls.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Karin Schmitt, Dr. James Schmitt, Dr. Olinger, and especially, Dr. Paul Knoll and his staff for their wonderful care and friendship. And a heartfelt thanks to Ed, the Nurse from Hospice, who Mom thought was the greatest.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, June 24, 2005, at the Belle Chapel, at 231 Avenue B, in Snohomish.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Snohomish County or Children's Hospital in Seattle.

We still miss you, Mom, each of us feeling we lost out best friend. We try to abide by your instruction of "no moping" and now mostly remember with smiles and laughs. People still hear me say "Mom said...." and "Mom always did....". I still make rhubarb pie the way you told me over 50 years ago, and it is still a hit. When Debbie has questions about how our family did things, I share what I learned from you and with you.

I love when you visit me in my dreams, and I wish I could retain the memories of those dreams, but they tend to fade before the day is over. I wish I could understand what the visits are about or what wisdom I should derive from them. But I know that they are for sure about love.

I often try to channel you in my dealings with others, and have more success some times than at others. I still want you to be proud of me.
So much love...... Gayle

Dear Family: I remember all of you Clingman girls. we were all young people in those days at the lst Presby. Church in Everett. We joined the Young Peoples group and spent many happy times together. I eventually worked for Dr. Raue at lst Presby. Church and then went on to marry Bob Vaara and we had 56 wonderful years together; he passed away in March of 2003 and I still live here in Mill Creek (since l981).

You are all in my thoughts and prayers these sad days.
