Much-loved Snohomish native Jim Gilbertson passed away Jan. 11, 2022, at age 69 after a courageous battle with COPD.
He was a popular, hard-working, fun-loving guy who enjoyed lasting friendships with a multitude of people well-nurtured by his earthiness and good humor. He liked golf, softball, fishing, beer, the Rolling Stones and was a perpetual fan of the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Huskies and Snohomish Panthers. He also had a soft spot for dogs and cats, especially black Labs and his favorite kitty, Midget.
Jim grew up with two brothers in a sports-minded family that supplied Snohomish High School with a decade of athletic talent highlighted by Jimmy's stint as a three-sport letterman on championship teams in football, basketball and baseball. With modest size, keen instincts and a highly competitive spirit, he was the starting quarterback and Most Inspirational Player in 1969 for the first 10-0 football team in SHS history while setting a school record for passing accuracy that stood for many years.
After high school and another football stint at Olympic Junior College, Jim went to work in the construction trade and enjoyed several working adventures in Alaska and Hawaii as well as Washington. He also spent a short time as a Seattle railroad worker and local handyman.
Jim is survived by his loving and caring wife of 27 years, Tracy Schott Gilbertson of Snohomish, as well as his younger brother Jay Gilbertson of Lake Stevens, older brother Keith Gilbertson Jr. and wife Barbara of Hayden Lake, Idaho, uncle George Gilbertson of Redmond, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents Keith Sr. and Eileen Gilbertson, both icons of Snohomish athletics and education.
At Jim's request, there will be no funeral, but his family plans an outdoor celebration of life this spring or summer.

Jimmy was such a kind person and always had a smile for everyone. Being our last names were alphabetically close, we were seated near each other often. I always enjoyed seeing him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My husband (Mark Williams 1952-2017 & SHS Class of '71), and brothers Danny and Steve, shared many fond stories of growing up in Snohomish and of the Gilbertson Family. RIP Jim and give Mark a hug for me.
