James Knox Obituary

James W. Knox, Jr., 81, of Puyallup, Wash. entered a new life on March 6, 2016. "Jim" or "Bill" was born in Hartford, Connecticut on December 29, 1934. He grew up in Hartford and in Columbia, Connecticut on his much loved Columbia Lake. Jim proudly served in the United States Army based in Germany and Beirut during the first Lebanese Crisis. Jim returned and went to work at The Hartford Electric Light Company. In 1999, Jim retired from Northeast Utilities having started as a young man working in the Underground and concluding a 46 year career as a Senior Systems Analyst. Jim's knowledge of the operating system was beneficial to many new engineers, as well as writing programs still used to this day. Jim and his wife, Linda, then moved to Camano Island, Washington next to the Puget Sound. In 2013, they moved to Puyallup to be next to their young family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Knox and Marjorie E. Knox; and his sister, Betty Jo Knox Tuttle. He leaves his loving wife, Linda Austrom Knox; his dear daughter, Jennifer Knox Penwell; a wonderful grandson, Colby A. Knox; a sweet granddaughter, Grace L. Penwell; two special step-grandsons, Graham Penwell and Carson Penwell; a dear son, George Preston Knox; and a granddaughter, Savannah R. Knox. A graveside service will be held in Columbia, Connecticut at the discretion of the family. We, Jim's family, give thanks for the very special home caregivers and Hospice Multi-Care for their excellent care. Memorial contributions may be made to Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.

Every now and then as I am headed down Camano Hill Rd I see a pickup coming toward me and I start to honk and wave. I miss the days when JB would drive by and always wave - anticipating I am in the kitchen and will wave back. I miss you JB and sure do miss you, Lin. You were the best neighbors and JB was always so willing to lend a helping hand when needed.
My love to you, Lin

Lin
We are on our way home from Cuba and just learned of JB's passing. He and you were the first two people that we met after moving to Camano Island. We have many fond memories of him especially when Colby was young. We will always treasure our days as next door neighbors.

Lin~
Bill and I share your loss. "JB" was very special. In the short time we neighbors, we were fortunate to have him become part of our lives, we enjoyed having both of you as "the best ever" neighbors and then very good friends.
He will be missed more than words can express. He was our "JB".
Praying for you Lin and your family.

You will always have my love.

Gloria

Linda,

We were saddened to see the news of Jim's passing in today's paper. Steve and I were thinking about you both a couple of weeks ago. (We were talking to someone from Washington state who owns a condo near ours in Florida.) I am sorry we lost touch with you. We have fond memories of you both, and your beautiful property in Columbia that you lovingly maintained.
Take care of yourself, Steve & Debbie

Dear Linda, Jennifer and Colby,
Linda (my wife) and I are so sorry for your loss. We are reminded of your visit to our home during one of your cross-country treks, and my visit to your home on Camano Island in 2010. Best wishes in your new surroundings.

Lin and family,

Jim was one of the first guys I met in the old HELCo tech group. He was my mentor and a great friend. As I've told both he and you recently hardly a day passes when I don't think of him or apply a lesson learned. He is in a better place but it's hard to realize he is gone. So looking forward to seeing you all in Columbia.

We had some great times working together at Northeast utilities, you shared your knowledge with all us. Rest in Peace my friend.

Linda and family, my sincere condolences to your family. I worked with Jimmy back in the 60's for HELCO. We used to have some good times working back then. He was such a big help to me when my brother died in 1965. He knew my brother, Donald from when he lived in our area. You worked with my sister Donna Smith in Wethersfield at the time. Every year we have the HELCO retirement dinner, I think of you guys. Prayers go out to your family. Arlene Smith Whipple
