Janet Sheppley Obituary

With great sadness, our family lost Janet Tull Sheppley on October 19th 2025. With her cherished son Matthew beside her, she peacefully passed on to join her beloved husband Bill. They are once again filling their days with love, laughter and silliness - even reprising their hilarious roles as "Juan and Maria". They were the best grandparents to their 3 treasured granddaughters Morgan, Madison and Marissa.

Jan was born on June 30th, 1937 in East Dubuque IL to Gerald and Jeanette Heller. Big brother Jim gained a little sister. As a young adult, Jan became a nursing student. Upon graduation, she began her career as a registered nurse. She eventually landed in pediatrics where she thrived working with children. In later years she referred to herself as an RON. This was always met with surprise until she revealed its meaning: Real Old Nurse.

On August 17th, 1958 she became Mrs. William S. Sheppley Jr.

In 1966, she left her nursing career to raise their infant son Matthew.

In 2023, Jan became a Great Grandmother to Giovanni. He was immediately adored. Oh the fun things she would have in store for him as he grew! She would show him how to be a championship golfer, to view the world through a camera lens, to enjoy beauty all around him, scenic drives with jazz playing with a little N'Sync thrown in. She would include playing the piano while singing with the most beautiful voice, the simple joy of a chocolate malt, fun days in Langley on Whidbey Island, visits to the Seattle Children's Museum, traveling, gardening, and enjoying wildlife visitors to her home in Mill Creek where she lived for over 40 years. She loved the beauty of her community and the wonderful connections she formed with neighbors and friends.

Most importantly, she would teach Gio to love with his whole heart, while throwing in a healthy dose of humor.

She leaves behind Matt & Danielle, Morgan and husband Jeremy, Madison and significant other Kevin, Marissa and Giovanni, along with extended family and endless friends. She touched many lives. Her absence will be profound.

Jan's family with be celebrating her life on November 16th at Matt & Danielle's home in Mill Creek from noon to 4.

Jan and my late husband were first cousins. I came to know her in mid life and though our visits with Jan and Bill were infrequent, they were filled with laughter and good food. She loved to take us on scenic drives out of Seattle when she would stop often and take a photo. I treasure several of her lovely photographs. My condolences to her family.

I spent quite a few years playing golf with Jan on Tuesdays with Snohomish Womens Golf Club. She was always a lot of fun to be around and was a champion for the club in the many roles she took on.
