Janice Beam Obituary

Janice (Jan) Marie (Brager) Beam passed away peacefully at home in Bothell under hospice care due to congestive heart failure. Her husband John was at her side. Born in Rugby, North Dakota, on September 29, 1945, Jan was the only child of Floyd and Elaine Brager. The family moved to the Bothell area when she was in middle school, and she graduated from Bothell High School class of 1963. She attended Mr. Lee's beauty college in Seattle following high school, and when she saw a fellow student disposing of sailor's picture, she asked to have it. She wrote him a letter with a picture, and he wrote back, courtship by U.S.P.S. On August 21st, 1965, Jan married John Beam at Bothell Methodist Church. John, who was serving in the U.S. Navy, returned to Vietnam waters three weeks later. During the time of his deployment Jan worked at a local hair salon until meeting his ship on its return to San Francisco in December of 1966. Over the next six years their two daughters were born, and early in 1972 the family moved back to the Pacific Northwest, as John once again was deploying to Vietnam. Upon his return in March 1973 the family lived in south Everett until they moved to their current home in Mays Pond in 1977. Jan became very active with the Girl Scouts, serving as troop leader as well as the local cookie depot. Durning this time she worked as a bookkeeper for local car dealerships until retiring to sell her crafts that she and her mother Elaine made at different craft fairs around the state. In 1980 Jan became active in the Lynnwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1040 Auxiliary. Over the next 45 years she was involved at the Post and the District and eventually served as the Auxiliary State President in 1999-2000. She remained active in the VFW Auxiliary until her health no longer permitted it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Elaine. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John, two daughters Tami Wagoner (Jerry) and Tiffany Landis (Adam), four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial will be held for family and friends in the fall.

Memorials can be made to Evergreen Health Hospice or the American Heart Association.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear neighbor Jan. She was such a sweet and kind soul, always ready with a warm smile and encouraging words. We will always remember the wonderful stories she shared and how welcome she made us feel when we moved to the neighborhood 14 years ago. Her kindness and warmth will be greatly missed.
