Jeanette Poore&bb&Jeanette Poore, 76, passed away on December 20, 2000, after a brief hospitalization in Monroe, WA. Born on January 22, 1924, in Centralia, WA, Jeanette was one of three daughters of Jack and Mable Poore. She graduated from Onalaska High School.&pe&Jeanette attended Linfield College and received her Bachelor of Arts from Washington State University in 1946, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She earned her Master of Education from Washington State in 1957. She did post-graduate work at both the University of California-Berkley and the University of Washington.&pe&Jeanette's long and distinguished career in education began in Port Townsend in 1946 and included counseling positions with the Snohomish and Moses Lake, Washington, School Districts. In 1957 Jeanette began a nearly 20 year association with Everett Community College, Everett, WA, where she served as Counselor, Psychology Instructor, Registrar, Dean of Students, Acting President and President. When she was appointed President of ECC in 1970, she was the first female community college president in the State of Washington and sixth in the nation. Jeanette fostered vocational education during her five year tenure as President.&pe&Jeanette left ECC in 1975 to accept the Presidency of the College of Alameda in Alameda, CA. She served there with distinction until 1981 when she retired to Echo Lake, WA.&pe&Jeanette was always active in community affairs, holding positions on the boards of Altrusa Club of Everett, Everett Chamber of Commerce, Everett Civic Music Association, Snohomish County Metropolitan Municipal Corporation, Snohomish County Chapter American Red Cross and Pilchuck Council Camp Fire Girls. Jeanette served as a Trustee of Seattle University and on the National Board of Camp Fire Girls.&pe& Her activities included extensive participation in Washington, California, and national community college educational programs. She served on many state community college advisory councils and committees and served on the accreditation teams for more than 12 community colleges in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. In 1967 Jeanette was one of ten persons chosen by the American Association of Junior Colleges to serve as national consultants to a nationwide community college appraisal program.&pe&Her contributions to her profession and community were widely recognized. Seattle University awarded Jeanette an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree in 1972. She was awarded the Luther Halsey Gulick National Camp Fire Girls in 1969 and the President's Medal at Everett Community College in 1971.&pe&Jeanette was predeceased by her parents and her identical twin, Jeanie. She is survived by her sister Betty Lee Collier of San Diego, CA and nephews Lex J. Byers of Scottsdale, AZ and Steven J. Byers of San Diego, CA.&pe& No services will be held at her wish.
