Joan Tellini Obituary

Joan Tellini&bb& &pe&JoAnne Bosshard, known by most as Joan Tellini, suddenly passed away on Friday, November 1st, 2002. Born in Spokane, Washington, December 1st, 1931. She spent most of her early years in Spokane. graduating from Eastern Washington State University in Cheney in 1952. Joan was active in Campfire, the church choir, Jobes Daughter, an avid tennis player and was even Homecomig Queen at Eastern Washington State U.&pe&In the late 50's she fled to New York City where she modeled and worked on the cruise ships in order to travel and see the world. By the mid '60's, she was living in Spain, where she met the Italian film director, Piero Tellini. They were married in 1965, and that same year had their first and only child, Chiara. In 1967, they returned to the states to visit Joan's family in Langley, Washington, on Whidbey Island. With Piero coming and going from Italy, Joan and her daughter remained in Langley through 1983, when Chiara went off to college in San Diego, California. Joan remained on the Island a few more years before moving to Coronado Island in San Diego, to be closer to her daughter. In Langley, Joan worked in the public school, wrote for the local paper, was a member of City Counsel, did research for the oil pipeline and was a large activist and proponent of environmental rights and preservation.&pe& A few years after moving to San Diego, she returned to Whidbey Island to run Hedgebrook, a women writer's retreat in Langley.&pe&For the past 5 years, Joan has lived in the Everett, Washington area. she has worked for the wilderness and parks department, has been active in her church and a member of the Everett Choral. &pe&Joan will be remembered by so many people, in so many corners of this earth, as she made an impact on everyone she met. She was passionate about environmental issues, her religious beliefs and music. she loved to travel, anywhere, often with just a backpack and no itinerary. She would travel with little or nothing, sleeping under the stars, with or without a tent, just to see more of the world, making the most of the time she had. Joan was opinionated, outlandish, colorful, funny, adventuresome, fearless and loved by her family and an endless abundance of friends.&pe&Joan is survived by her daughter, Chiara Tellini of Pasadena, California, brother, Jim church of Stanwood, Washington, and sister, Janet Freimuth of Brush Prairie, Washington.&pe&Memorial services will be held this Saturday, November 9th, 2002 at 11am, at First United Congregational church of Christ, 2624 Rockefeller Ave., Everett, Washington, 98201.
