Mary Linton Obituary

Mary Isabelle (Chitty) Linton died on Friday morning, October 25, 2013 at 90 years of age at Abundant Life Family Senior Family Home in Lynnwood, WA. She was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, March 6, 1923, but lived in the Northwest since she was a small child. She grew up in Olympia, spent her first high school years in Eugene, then returned to Olympia High School where she graduated with Jess W. Linton, her husband of 69 years. Mary and Jess lived in many homes they created together in Bothell, Seattle, Richmond Beach, Edmonds, Snohomish, Marysville, Chelan, Everett and Stanwood. With Jess, Mary enjoyed many years at the family cabin at Lake Chelan and boating both there and on Puget Sound. They travelled on bike trips to Europe and RV trips around the United States and Mexico. Jess died April 22, in 2010. Most people remember Mary for her boundless energy, her cheerfulness, her sense of fairness, and her love for her children and grandchildren. They all remember her making holidays and birthdays very magical, and providing them with many experiences in the arts and educational pursuits. Mary was exceptionally generous with friends, family and charities. She supported a refugee family in her home and orphanages abroad. Mary is perhaps less known for her lifelong private pursuit of learning, taking college courses in poetry, meteorology, and marine biology, as well as local classes in sailing, car mechanics, carpentry, candle-making and cake decorating. Mary is survived by her four children and their spouses, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who will all miss her kind nature. She quietly died as she lived…a gracious, humble and dignified lady who touched many lives with her sweetness. My condolences go out to all of the Linton family members during this time.
Although I didn't know her well, I had the pleasure of meeting both Mary and Jess on two occasions. Such a lovely couple, both obviously loved and respected so very much by their children and grandchildren.
