Millard Lord Obituary

Millard A. Lord

Millard A. Lord, 94, died July 10, 2010.
Millard Albert Lord was the child of Wilhelmina and Albert Lord. He was born on July 31, 1915, in Everson, Washington, but his family moved to Bellingham, Washington during the early years of his life. There he attended school and graduated from Whatcom High School. He was employed in Bellingham until the United States entered World War II. He enlisted in the Navy and served two years in the South Pacific aboard the destroyer, the USS Case. After his discharge, he returned to Bellingham to work and attend Western Washington University. There he met and married his wife, Margaret. They moved to Pullman, Washington where he enrolled and graduated, with honors, from Washington State University.
Following his college graduation, he signed a contract to teach in Arlington, Washington where he spent the next twenty-eight years as a math and industrial arts teacher, counselor, and finally, vice-principal of Arlington High School. Always interested in sports, he was, for many years, the announcer at the high school football and basketball games. His evenings were also spent at dramatic and musical events at the high school. He was a popular and admired teacher and administrator.
During his time in Arlington, Millard belonged to the City Civil Service Commission, the Library Board, American Legion, Lions Club, and Arlington United Church. For several years, he coached Little League Baseball and Basketball. Millard enjoyed a regular golf foursome and was a familiar figure in local golf clubs. His other love was his home and he was known for his beautiful lawn and flowers.
Millard leaves Margaret, his beloved wife of 63 years; a daughter, Susan Porter (Kent), of Bothell, WA; son, Robert M. Lord, of Lake Forest Park, WA; and two grandchildren, Marisa Snyder (Brian) and Anthony Porter (Kilie).
The family invites those who knew him to join them for coffee from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, at the Arlington United Church social hall.
Donations in his memory can be sent to a charity of your choice. Notes to the family can be sent to 9124 NE 152nd Pl., Kenmore, WA 98028.

Mr. Lord was always one of my favorite people. He would always stop to talk to you and always treated you with respect. I was a friend of his daughter Sue so he always had to put up with a bunch of giggling girls in his house especially when his wife Margaret was our Camp Fire leader. They both will always be part of my fondest childhood memories. Thanks to his family for sharing him with all of us.

When I look back and think of Arlington having been a good place
to be "The Home Town" to grow up in and gain a perspective to manage life, the knowledge to make decisions, the skills to cope
with the worst and the desire to succeed at my best I think of the
good and gifted people that guided me in my youth.
Mr. Lord was a friend, a mentor and honorable associate in my life. Lyman E. Lewis, Analyst Arlington, WA

The picture of Millard reminds us of the friendly and caring personality. We became friends of Margaret and Millard through our dear friend, Lynda Watson, and what a great time we always had upon our visits. Millard always remembered our family and would ask about everyone. Just a few months ago, we had a chance to talk about some of the great times we had together and it was amazing how much he remembered. We will miss him.

My late husband and I were friends of Millard and Margaret when we all lived in Pullman, Washington in the late 1940s. Millard was a very admirable person and a good husband. I hope to reconnect with Margaret and I extend my love and sympathy to her and her family.

Millard Lord was a role model and mentor to young teachers as well as to students. He was truly an inspiration who reminded people why they became educators.

So much gratitude for Mr. Lord's guidance, friendship, and support during my four years at Arlington High School (Class of 1961/ASB Pres.). He was instrumental in getting me a scholarship to WSU. He was always a gentleman and a role model.

Mr. Lord was one of the most respected and loved men that I have ever had the pleasure to know. He was the Vice-Principle in 1971 when I graduated. He always treated you as a individual, never as just a kid..he was truly interested in you, the person. I ran into him last year in Safeway and he still remembered my name! What a man! We have truly lost a caring soul. God Bless you and your family during this difficult time.

Mr. Lord was our Senior Class Adviser for the class of '61, and I have fond memories of him at our assemblies and class meetings. He was a Class Act, and loved by all. Here's a fond farewell, Mr. Lord, and I wish your family hope and peace.

AHS Class of 1977 has many fond memories of Mr. Lord. We always felt honored that he retired the year that we graduated. He was a fair, honest and kind man. He will be remembered fondly by many.

Mr. Lord was Vice-Principle when I was in high school and graduated in 1971. I worked in the office and he was always very nice to work with. He expected a lot from us kids but in return you got a lot of respect back from him and he didn't ask you anything more than to do your best.He was a nice person. Patti (Mathews)Salo

Mr. Lord was the Vice-Principal during the years I attended Arlington High School (1964-1967). I can remember on several occasions having issues with one teacher or another and Mr. Lord would come to my assistance. He was truly dedicated to the young people and education. He will truly be missed. May the Lord comfort you and your family during this time. ~(nee Brown)
