Pauline Keck Langner Obituary

1926 - 2025

Pauline was born to John Keck and Magdalena (Neiffer) Keck on the first day of summer, 1926. Born at home, in Startup, Washington, Pauline was the 7th of nine children. She lived in the Skykomish Valley for 64 years before moving to Whidbey Island, and then eventually Longview, WA. Pauline married Werner (Nook) Langner and with him had three sons - Alan, Paul and James. She was preceded in death by her folks, her brothers Bert, Emil, Arthur, John and Ellis, and sisters Bertha, Hertha and Doris, her husband Nook, and son Alan. Her nickname, 'Jeevie,' was her preferred moniker. She was proud to have grown up on a farm and boasted 'strong hands from milking cows.' She chided Nook for years about the most expensive shoes he ever bought her were calk boots, so she could set tongs faster when working the landing. During WW II, Jeevie was a riveter on Boeing's B - 29's. Her ability to set 'pin-curls' for the other girls was in such demand, other riveters would cover her work so she could set curls unhindered in the lady's room. Despite the draw of milking cows or setting chokers, Pauline eventually found her way to barber school. She barbered until her 90th birthday. She proudly shared she was the first female barber examiner in the state of Washington. Pauline excelled in the kitchen, sharing her love of baking and cooking with anyone within arm's reach. Equally adept in butchering chickens, digging clams, shooting geese, or foraging for morels, Pauline enjoyed life around a kitchen table. She loved travel, making trips to Europe, Central America, Alaska, Canada, and most of the 50 states. She is survived by sons Paul (Rainier, Oregon) and Jim (Sultan, WA and Boyd, TX), four granddaughters, five great granddaughters and a great grandson. Having outlived her family and her peers, there will just be a private memorial. Per Pauline's wishes, "Don't send cards or flowers, just have a shot of Jagermeister for me."

Paul,
Thanks for your loving care for your mom over the last several years. I have fond memories of visiting the farm, camping on the sand by the swimming hole and watching the cows for a week with my sister, Doris. Your mom was a special lady that will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew her. May you and Jimmy find peace in knowing she rests in the arms of God this holiday season and is celebrating with her brothers, sisters, and family members who were waiting with open arms to embrace her again. Well done Paul,

Pauline ....... What can you say about Pauline ? The best character I ever had the pleasure of knowing ....I worked with Pauline for years , as Barbers together. That should tell the whole story right there....
She was caring , and kind , (most of the time ) fiery Id say....
We all loved Pauline, she taught me never to talk , politics, religion, or sports, to any customers ........ thats about all she talked about. Ha
She would revel in her stories she told, and by the end of the day they barely resembled the story she started with.
They were Good stories too !!
Pauline loved family, and heritage and "by God , thats what needs to be done "
Often offering unsolicited advice to anyone who would listen to her wisdom. ( which was usually good )
So many , many wonderful and crazy stories about Pauline , whom I will love forever.
A quote from Pauline
" I m busier than a picket full of angler worms "
Or
" busier than a rat on a raft "
So full of ideas, and not always for the better. Great sense of humor, thank heavens, i worked with her for over 30 years.
She will be missed by so many people and always loved and remembered by me.

I only had the chance to meet her once, but even in that moment her kindness was clear. My condolences to all and wishing you comfort during this difficult time. Rest in peace Pauline

My mother, Jolynn Keck Hanna, had some essence of Aunt Jeevie. I was lucky to go on a road trip with Kellie and go visit Aunt Jeevie. I know she was the glue of the Keck side. She organized some reunions and parties that were wonderful. I'm sure Aunt Jeevie and mother are in the heavens visiting. Very special Aunt

Aunt Jeevie had a hand in raising most of her copious amounts of nieces and nephews!

I will miss her wisdom, love and snarkiness!
