Richard Soderman Obituary

Richard L. Soderman

Richard L. Soderman, born on August 30, 1928, passed away to Heaven May 6, 2010.
Dick was born in Rockford, Illinois. His family moved to Alaska while he was an infant. He lived for several months on a log raft cabin while his father was a logger. The family moved to Everett, Washington when Dick was two; where he lived until retirement.
Dick was a standout high school athlete and a three year letterman in football and baseball. He graduated from Everett High School in 1947. Shortly after high school, Dick was drafted into the Army where he served three tours of duty in the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After the war, Dick worked for Lee grocery, D.A. Duryee Real Estate and finally, as a Nalley's warehouse manager. Dick was an avid golfer from his teenage years until his death.
Dick and his wife, ErvaLea, spent their retirement years at the Desert Aire Golf Community where they made many lifelong friends. Dick and his stepson, Mike, had 27 years of elk hunting adventures in the L.T. Murray region where Dick is still known as "The Chipman" as he brought many, many bags of Nalley's chips for the hunters to snack on.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, ErvaLea; daughter, Cindy (Kim) Brazell, their children, Nicholas and Matthew; daughter, Kristy (Mike) Spencer, and their children, Christian, Ryan and Katie; stepson, Michael (Dawn) McCorkle and Dick's first great-grandson, Aaron; stepson, David (Phyllis) McCorkle, their children, Spencer and Allison; step-son, Gregory McCorkle and his son, Christopher.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Virgie Soderman; and his brother, Ed Soderman.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, at Solie Funeral Home, 3301 Colby Ave., Everett. A time of visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until the start of the service at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the Fireside Room.
A memorial in Desert Aire will be planned for a future date.
Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.

Dick, very glad we ran into each other a few years ago. I will always remember and hold close the years at D.A Duryee, back in the early 70's. God bless and Keep.

To The Soderman Family:
Our families have been friends since I can remember. Virgie and Walt Soderman were great friends with my grandparents, Bill and Meda Seibert, along with Gib and Shirl Anderson. My mother, Evelyn Deckard, was friends with Dick. We were around the Sodermans since we were children and it was always a great treat to visit them at their house.
Please accept our families deepest sympathy on your loss. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Just know Dick is reunited with Walt and Virgie and they are having a great time.

I miss you Dick but I know you are in Heaven now. You showed me what it's like to open up to people and love them and let them share in your life. That's what it's all about. You were and are loved.
