Robert Shofstall Obituary

Robert Stearns Shofstall

Robert "Bob" Shofstall died on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at 76, and leaves behind his brother, Duane Shofstall; wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Olivier; three sons, Mike, Doug and Jim Shofstall; and three nieces, Julie Blanchard, Kelli Shofstall and Lynn Griffin.
Bob was born in Cottage Grove, OR, and graduated from Redmond Union High School in Redmond, OR. He initially studied Pharmacy until he enlisted in the Navy in early 1951. His four-year tour of duty included one and a half years in Korea. Assigned as a corpsman, he also helped out combat personnel by loading ammunition and other duties as well. The service awarded him National Defense Service Medal and Korean Service Medal.
In the Navy he fell in love with airplanes. Afterwards, he studied in Los Angeles, CA and obtained an Associate Degree in Aeronautical Engineering and obtained his private pilot's license for single engine aircraft. He worked for Cessna and flight tested completed airplanes. He went on to work at Boeing and other aerospace ventures.
Vacations were taken at Wapato Point in Manson, WA, and resulted in buying property and building a house overlooking Lake Chelan. He retired in 1994 and finally moved into the home in late 2000. He enjoyed retirement and read everything from financial news to Louis Lamore novels. He enjoyed listening to a variety of music. His favorite time of year was Christmas and enjoyed Mannheim Steamroller Christmas albums. Bob was a kind, loving man with a great sense of humor and will be missed by all of us.
Prostate cancer took his life.
His memorial will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Precht Rose Chapel, 332 E. Woodin Avenue, Chelan, WA.
Donations can be made to either Lake Chelan Community Hospital Foundation/Hospice, PO Box 908, Chelan, WA 98816 or Soroptimist International of Chelan, PO Box 1322, Chelan, WA 98816.
