Wallace Armstrong passed away January 20th, 2024 at the age of 92.
Wallace was born in Monroe July 23, 1931 to Melvin and Hazel Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his son's Jeffery and his wife Vickie, his son Alex and his wife of almost 50 years Jessie Armstrong.
He is survived by his two sisters Linda (Ivan) Danner and Marion Killian. He also is survived by his two other sons Danny (Michele) and Gene (James) Armstrong. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.
Wally was born and raised in Monroe. Went to the old school that was on Wagner Hill and the schools in downtown Monroe. Stopped going to High School to join the Army and went to Korea were he did his time and then came back home to finish High School. This is were he met Jessie Goodwill and they finished high school together June 1954.
Having several jobs including driving a school bus while he was still in high school he landed a job with Great Northern Railroad. Were he worked for 35 years when he retired with Burlington Northern. After retirement he kept busy saving on the boards of The Red Wing Society, Wagner and then Tualco Grange, Lions Clubs, Monroe Historical Society, and several other organizations. He also taught for AARP 55 and Alive classes for many years.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Wally July 20th at the Talc Grange 18933 Tualco Rd, Monroe, WA 98272 outside of Monroe. It will start at 1pm and it will be potluck.

Conversation with Wally at the bank was always entertaining. Learning about Redwing, understanding history of Monroe, and sharing love of railroading was a wonderful way to spend an hour. May his memory be a blessing.
