I served with Roger in Chu Lai, South Vietnam,'65-'66, Delta company, 1/7 Marines. He was a radio operator who "volunteered" to go out on foot patrol with the infantry in addition to his already assigned patrols.I know because I was often on the other end of that radio in the communication bunker taking calls for fire support. I know the sress and constant danger of those patrols and often heard the noise of a kill zone fire fight as Roger "keyed" his radio to request motar support. I served 4 years in the Corps and NEVER met a braver Marine. He ALWAYS had your back. AND he was one of the nicest guys on earth. Over the years we kept in touch and visited a few times which were too few.I will ALWAYS wish I had spent much more time with him and his most dear wife Michelle and Scott and his wonderful family. What great times we shared.GOD blessed me to know you, and you HONORED me with your friendship!I share the deep pain of your family and pray for their future.I can not say enough about how you impacted my life. I will miss you as long as I live!

I've known Roger for only a short time, but he quickly became one of my favorite friends. I enjoyed the many games of cribbage and the great sense of humor Roger brought to the games. He was intelligent, thoughtful and extremely friendly and kind. I wasn't surprised to see that Roger had been a Boy Scout leader, he embodied the elements of the Boy Scout Oath and Boy Scout Motto as much as anyone I have ever met.
I always looked forward to my next visit to Bayview which included a chance to spend time with Roger and Michelle. I'm sorry I didn't meet him much earlier, and I'll miss him very much.

Some time after being discharged from the Marines in late February 1969, I began receiving mail that was directed to him but because we had the same name came to me.
As luck would have it, years later I had the great fortune to see him at a Marine Corps birthday celebration in New Bedford. Over the years we were able to meet at this event and have great conversations.
I would like to give my condolences to all of the family and send you Peace That Passeth All Understanding.
