William J. McConnell Jr.

William J. McConnell Jr., age 80, of Somerset, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Eileen M. (Murphy) McConnell to whom he has been married for the past fifty years. Born in Fall River, a son of the late William J. McConnell Sr. and Sadie (Deda) McConnell, he lived in Fall River prior to moving to Somerset over fifty years ago. A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1957, he was a Veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a Pressman for the Fall River Herald News for thirty-five years before his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Fall River Herald News bowling league for many years. He was an avid Red Sox and Ted Williams fan. One of his favorite hobbies throughout his life was collecting baseball cards. He also enjoyed working in his yard and planting flowers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Colleen Kublin of Fall River; one son, William P. McConnell of Somerset and three grandchildren, Shayla D'Amico-McConnell, Alexis Kublin and Devin D'Amico. He was the father of the late Patrick McConnell. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St. Somerset. Relatives and friends invited. Visitation will be held prior to his service from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
