ROCK HILL - Arthur Caleb (A.C.) Hemphill, 79, departed peacefully on May 20, 2010, at his home.
He was the son of the late Arthur Hemphill and Hattie Bell Dewese Hemphill. He was raised in a Christian home and confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. He joined Nazareth Baptist Church, where he worshipped his entire life.
Arthur was educated in the public schools of York County. During his working years, he was employed at Rock Hill Printing and Finishing, Lowenstein Corporation and worked as a carpenter. He retired from Inland Container Corrugated.
Arthur is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Hemphill. He is survived by six daughters, Minnie Gordon of Nashville, Tenn., Doreatha Douglas, Dorothy Currence (Ben), Jeanette Wylie, all of Rock Hill, S.C., Gloria Howard (Weldon) of Houston, Texas and Vivian Bullock (Glenn) of Rock Hill; three sons, Archie Hemphill (Shirley) of Chester, S.C., Vernon Hemphill and Aldo Hemphill, both of Rock Hill; one adopted daughter, Virlene Watson of Rock Hill; two beloved nieces, Karen Bragg and Gaynita Bragg of Jersey City, N.J.; and special cousins, James and Carol Minor of Buffalo, N.Y., Mary Simpson of Englewood, N.J., Robert Dewese of Patterson, N.J., and Mattie Lee Odom of Rock Hill.
He will be lovingly remembered by 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to Serenity Hospice Care and Missy Breeden, Kyle Ogle, Elizabeth Stapleton, Miriam Mick and Ida Newsom.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Nazareth Baptist Church. Pastor John T. McCoy will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour before the service.
The body may be viewed from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clemons-McCray Funeral Home. Condolences may be e-mailed to [email protected].
