YORK - Billy "Curve Ball" Sweatt, 78, of 2050 Old York Rd., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 26, 2010.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday June 29, 2010, at the First Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Trey Doyle. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Billy was a son of the late Hazel M. Sweatt and Inez Jordan Sweatt. He was retired from Celanese Corp. He was an avid S.C. Gamecock fan and also loved golf. A four-year, four-letter high school athlete, Billy was inducted into the York County Sports Hall of Fame and played professional baseball. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Special Services.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Robertson Sweatt; a son, Randy Sweatt (Lynn), of Rock Hill, S.C.; daughter, Regina S. White of Greenville, S.C.; three brothers, Jack M. Sweatt (Darnelle), James (Jimmy) Sweatt (Rachel), and Donald R. Sweatt, all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Joanne S. Carter and Carolyn S. Brackett (Pat), both of Rock Hill; two stepdaughters, Stacie H. Greene (Scott) and Terry H. Hardin (Terry), both of York; a stepson, Sammy Harper of York; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; a great-grandson; and caregiver, Viola Clark; sitter, Dennis White; and nurse Karen Quail whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Sweatt; a sister, Martha Jean Sweatt Earle; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2010, at Bratton Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 102 S. Congress St. York, SC 29745.
Bratton Funeral Home in York is serving the Sweatt family.
