Dorothy Craven Obituary

Dorothy Jean Howe Craven of Rock Hill, SC died peacefully on September 21, 2016 at Harbor Chase Memory Care in Rock Hill. Dorothy was born in Hickory Grove, SC on October 2, 1935. Affectionately known as "Dot", she was the daughter of the late Charles Moffatt Howe and Clara Howell Howe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey C. Craven and two grandchildren, Lindsay Rebecca Craven and Thomas Russell Harris III. She is survived by two sons, Steve Craven (Sandra) and Cleve Craven, both of Rock Hill; and two daughters, Vickie Harris (Thomas "Pete" ) of Indian Land and Karen Anthony (Terry ,deceased) of Myrtle Beach, SC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Matt Craven (Hope), Winston Craven, Casey Craven, and Corey Craven of Rock Hill; Autumn McGuirt (Daniel) of Monroe; Jennifer Paitsel (Mickey) of Conway, SC, and Jean Marie Harris and Hannah Harris of Indian Land, SC ; and also five great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a devoted employee and retired after 42 years of service in cost accounting with Lowenstein, Springs Industries and Springfield, LLC. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, gardening and genealogy and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy - Beulah Meredith Chapter, Rock Hill SC. She also enjoyed being a member of the Rock Hill High School Class of '53 Club. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22 from 6 PM - 8 PM at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home in Rock Hill and other times at the home of her son, Steve Craven at 426 Homeplace Lane in Rock Hill. A Funeral service will be held at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home on Friday, September 23 at 11 AM with burial following the service at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1830 Celanese Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Online condolences may be registered at www.basscares.com.
