Rock Hill, South Carolina - Dr. Janis Sebree Pendleton, PHD Ed. was born May 8, 1953, the daughter of the late Frank L. Sebree Sr. and Doris Jones Sebree. Dr. Pendleton went home to be with the Lord on December 8, 2021.
Dr. Pendleton was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ early, being baptized at Gainesville Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and later joining Ebenezer Baptist Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Dr. Pendleton was educated in the public schools of Hopkinsville Kentucky, receiving her Bachelor's degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College, her Master's degree from Murray State University & her Doctorate in Education from Capella University.
Dr. Pendleton was a life-long educator, retiring from Clinton College in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 2017, after 21 years of faithful service. After her retirement, Dr. Pendleton enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren, reading, shopping and traveling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert F. Pendleton Jr., her brother Frank L. Sebree Jr., and her sister Mildred Greene.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters; Monica Pendleton, Fasha Hinton (David) her son, Shawn Pendleton, her brothers; Cleveland Sebree, Ronald (Janice) Sebree, Michael (Especulia) Sebree, her sister; Diana (Willie) Crisco, grandchildren; Jonathan (Chastity) Miller, Jonston Miller, Shawn Pendleton Jr., Dante Greer, Vaughn-Maree Nash, Kingston Hinton, Winfrey Hinton, Josiah Hinton & Zuri Hinton; 9 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & dear friends.
Memorial service will be at the funeral home on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 4 PM. Clemons-McCray Funeral Home is in charge.

Dr. Janis Pendleton was one of the kindest individuals I've ever had the good fortune to meet and befriend. As former Dean of Clinton College, she hired me to teach U.S. and World History around 2008. Dr. Pendleton worked so very hard to be of service to the students. I loved this lady for the genuine concern and love she afforded me and other staff. As I write this entry, pain is gripping my chest. I will miss my friend so much. Heaven has gained another angel.

It is with deep sorrow and prayer that my husband and I offer condolences to the family. What a marvelous and wonderful spirit Dr. Pendleton exhibited in her duties at Clinton College. As the mother of four children who all began their upper level education at Clinton; I was afforded lots of interaction with Dr. Pendleton. Her willingness to problem solve, her love of people and her laughter will be cherished memories! The gates of Heaven have opened for her.
